This is great! They may not have put a label on themselves as hard-rock but there are some tracks that sure would go under that label. Can't You Hear Me Knocking (the first part) is definitely hard-rock in my ears, Bitch as well. The Stones did flirt with a lot of genres that was popular at the time. The tracks from Some Girls that some have mentioned here are imo flirting more with pun

One major reason why the Stones is my number one band is that they spawned over so much different genres over the years. You can get everything out of the Stones. There is of course blues but there is also rock n roll, pop, soul, country, gospel, reggae, funk, disco and so on... As a fan of bands like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Purple etc. I've always enjoyed the more harder side of the Stones, Tra

Why Forty Licks, a compilation? Would be much cooler with a Sticky Fingers or Exile on Main St. wine since they did a Dark Side of The Moon one. Anyway, I just put an order of a bottle in my local liquor store. Gonna be interesting.

I don't like the 1967 Psychedelic/Pop era(Between The Buttons & Their Satanic Majesties Request). I consider it to be their worst (yes worse than mid-80's)so these are my picks for the 60's: Early 60's: 1 Not Fade Away 2 Little Red Rooster 3 Time Is On My Side 4 I'm Free 5 She Said Yeah 6 The Last Time 7 Satisfaction 8 I'm Alright (Live Version) 9 U

I don't even count albums released before Aftermath as real albums. They're more like compilations of great singles with a handful of fillers. Heck, the "Album" as a form of expression wasn't even invented back then (I believe Rubber Soul in '65 was the first real focused solid album where every single track stood out).

According to Keith in Life, he never used any effects except for the famous fuzz on Satisfaction and a phaser on the Some Girls album. Is this really true? What about the wah-wah's on Goats Head Soup? And I can clearly hear some kind of phaser on tracks like Fingerprint File. Was that all Taylor?

The intro to Start Me Up. He seems to fall in out of time and misses a few beats before finding the real beat. It still sounds good, thats why they kept the cut obviously, but I'm sure this is a mistake.

QuoteslewIt's Only Rock 'N' Roll and Black and Blue Great albums! Although both these got some fillers. Goats Head Soup on the other hand is imo as solid as BB, LIB, SF, EOMS & SG, but just not as good. For me, the gold era didn't end with EOMS but with this.

I was about to make a similiar topic about Goats being the most underrated Stones-album. I love this album dearly. Theres not a single weak moment, all the tracks are great and some are really among their best: 100 Years Ago, starts as a Van Morrison-esque soul turns into an intense wah-wah solo. Wonderful. Winter, Mick Taylor shines on this beautiful song and at the end this is one of Jagger

Which songs by Bo Diddley did the Stones record? I only know the Buddy Holly cover of Not Fade Away is ibviously inspired by Diddley. I've seen the footage from the kurhaus riots that is featuring a sweet Diddley groove, can't figure out which song it is though.

When I think of The Beatles and guitars I think of the mean Helter Skelter and the wierd backwards solo in Taxman and it's actually McCartney who does both. On the acoustic Blackbird and Dear Prudence it's again McCartney. And as mentioned above, Eric Clapton plays the solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Harrison was à great songwriter though, sometimes greater than both Lennon/McCart

Did the Black Crowes ever start a show? Would be pretty sweet. I liked The Hives here in Gothenburg. Historically: Stevie Wonder, BB King, Ike & Tina Turner.
