I had similar thoughts during "19th". "Hey, Pat Smear is playing with Mick Jagger. I wonder what my Punk loving ex-girlfriend thinks of this?" (when we dated in the early nineties, she felt the Stones were great, but irrelevant. we had numerous arguments about this.) For the record, she thought last night was "extremely cool".

No doubt they've both been dicks. No doubt in the least. It's just seems like only one of those dicks can still perform.

Bingo. I'm interested in seeing what they do individually, but I think they're done as a functioning band.

I would say there is a world of difference between some guy singing a Stones song to a pre-recorded track in bar somewhere and Mick Jagger singing a Stones song with the Foo Fighters or Arcade Fire. One is karaoke, and the other was an exciting Rock and Roll performance on live TV in front of millions of viewers. I mean....good on you if you didn't enjoy SNL, but to equate it with kara

Few occurrences would make me happier than Keith guesting on Fallon again and blowing the doors off the joint with Jack White, or Tom Waits or whomever....I'm a big believer in the concept that the competitive drive of the Glimmer Twins is what has kept the Stones afloat for so long. Unfortunately, I don't think things are very competitive any more. I would love to be proved wrong

Wait...you think Keith doesn't want to play with Mick because of the quality of some of the more recent Stones songs? I would hazard a guess that you're projecting a bit there.

How on earth anyone can think it's Mick's fault that the Stones didn't play on SNL is beyond me. I, for one, am beyond grateful that Mick has kept himself in "performance shape". Do I wish that Keith had too? Yeah. Sadly, virtually every available document over the past 5 years seems to prove otherwise. Who knows? Maybe Mick and Charlie and Ronnie and Mick T. will h

Mick was amazing. The energy, the vitality....amazing night. 3 songs with high energy bands, plus virtually every sketch. The man is a force of nature. I can't help but wonder why anyone is still pretending Keith can keep up. The gap between their current levels of ability is staggering. Awesome job, Mick.

I would like to "open" "the case" again and mention that using the word "should" to describe what Mick Jagger is doing is insane. Mick Jagger should be doing whatever it is that Mick Jagger does. That's why he's Mick Jagger. Your opinion of what he "should" do is the very definition of meaningless, and therefore negates the word, "shoul

1) By mentioning that longtime fans should be able to "ask" the Rolling Stones to play "a couple of songs", you are actually implying that they owe you something. If you weren't, you wouldn't mention how long the "fans" in question have been supporting the band. The only reason to mention supporting the band for 40 years is to make it seem as if you are owe

The Stones owe their fans exactly nothing. If you want to see them play on SNL because Jagger is hosting, more power to you. If you think they owe it to you, you could not be more misguided.

Even though these rumors often add up to absolutely nothing, I appreciate the info greatly. The thing I find fascinating is that even if a rumor is true, we might never know it. It could very well be that Mick had planned SNL as a possible Stones endeavor, but that the level of performance at rehearsals, and the band chemistry, were so abysmal, he had to invite other bands to back him up. Arcade Fire and the Foo Fighters don't need Jagger for anything resembling a career boost or "cred". It's pretty clear that they really want to play with Mick for the best reason, ie; they have a ton of respect for him. I mean, think about how many posts on IORR deal with the fantasy of the Stones stripping down their stage show and just playing for the love of it. That&

I'm not sure this is a divisive enough issue to warrant splitting people up into camps. I'm sure almost everyone here would be thrilled if the Stones played on SNL. Since there hasn't been Stones announcement, however, it makes some sense to believe what has been announced instead. If the Stones don't play next week at 30 Rock, I won't be here saying, "I told you

I think that story has been taken down; the one about Jagger playing with the Stones on SNL. I know the source for the "Keith in Dallas" story has now said the story isn't true.

CNBC is NBC's cable channel devoted, mostly, to business. SNL does not seem to be a part of their programming.

If SNL was going to break a "ratings record" by having the Stones on, they would have to be promoting it as "The Stones on SNL". You know, funny little promos with Mick and Keith. Maybe Charlie and Ronnie with another cast member....stuff like that. So far, it seems like that kind of thing isn't happening. It could be because SNL doesn't promote shows more than a

I don't know anyone who thinks Arcade Fire is trendy or lacking in soul. It's OK if you're ignorant concerning popular, current, bands, but it's best to not try and seem like an authority on them in that case. Seriously, Arcade Fire....trendy and soul free? That's an incredibly misinformed statement.

Great version. The Roots are cooking. How nice to hear a rhythm guitarist actually "kill it" in a positive way. Taylor sounds good, too. A nice, tight, version that keeps him from wandering into fusion land. Why aren't The Roots playing with Jagger on SNL? Also, I took Stern's interaction with Taylor to be respectful and funny. Although, I have no idea how anyone could t

The opening bit on SNL, often referred to as a "cold open", rarely involves the host of the show. Instead, it's usually a "ripped from the headlines" sketch piece that ends with one, or more, of the cast members saying, "Live from New York....". Then, the opening credit montage rolls and the host is introduced and does the monologue which is usually followed by

That's a good point. Getting the Stones would certainly be a coup for SNL and it would probably increase online traffic for the show at Hulu and NBC.com. Still...NBC could have that and higher ratings if they ramp up the rumor machine around the 15th or 16th.

There are a lot of "what ifs" that point to a possible Stones appearance on SNL, but getting too excited about it now seems kind of silly. If you believe the NBC/Universal connection is one of the reasons the Stones might play together on live TV, then it also makes sense that NBC/Universal would want to promote the heck out of it or, at the very least, leak some well founded rumors tha

Why are people surprised/angry/hurt/disappointed by "reclining" Rod's absence? He's spent the last decade trying to sell himself as a slightly hipper, less talented, Tony Bennett. The chances of him getting up onstage and rocking with the Faces are pretty slim.
