My secret wish is to have "Under the Red Sky" re-recorded with any of the bands that made or toured on the last two albums. It seems like "Red Sky", "Down in the Groove" and both the solo records "World Gone Wrong" and "Good as I Been to You" were steps towards what he finally accomplished on "Love and Theft" and "Modern Times.&quo

What bums me out is this. I like his music; I don't want 10 freakin' discs of every last thing he committed to tape or film. If there's ever a several CD version of the songs, I'll be content with that. I feel ridiculous when I buy something like Miles Davis' complete Bitches Brew, so $350 - $450 for this just ain't gonnna happen. Maybe it's hypocritical

<Trying to remember the line I like - "I was King / Mr Cool / Just a snobby little fool....I don't think so now". > I think it's: "I Was king/Mr. Cool/Just a snobby little fool/Like the kids are now." Which is friggin' brilliant! imho

The biggest bummer about Rough Justice is the production. It doesn't have any snarl. Imagine if it had been recorded like Lowdown or Hand of Fate to name two.

If I already own LA Friday, which discs DON'T I need to grab? Do people recommend the 11th? One site says it's discs 3 and 4, despite what the artwork says. Sheesh. Any help appreciated.

Dylan has long said in interviews that he feels it's pointless to say "Hello, Cleveland." Etc. The connection that he builds with his audience is based precisely on the fact that he does rearrange the songs so intriguingly. And I agree with the earlier post that sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. As an audience member, you have to be engaged with the show to a

I agree that Out of Control and Saint of Me were awesome in 97. Out of Control really got supplanted by Can't You Hear Me Knocking as the long guitar/harp/sax jam song. Sadly, it never returned.

OK, This is (except for Primitive Cool -- which is one of the worst albums ever, IMO) the only Stones related product I just haven't ever been able to get. I liked Talk is Cheap, but this one falls flat for me. I have always felt like there aren't any SONGS on this record. Please advise how to listen to Main Offender to appreciate it.

Justin, One addition to the Bob search. Check out this site, and troll around to the "Must Have" bootleg section. www.bobsboots.com/CDs/index.html The "Must Have" page lists the 2 or 3 best boots from each tour. Then go to "Expecting Rain" on their "Rare Dylan Recordings" page is an A-Z list by title and/or date, and you can find the files for most

Lyrically and musically it reminds me of "I Go Wild." Verses crammed with lyrics and a simple repetitive chorus. I think "Wild" works better because the chorus isn't so rushed. Here it races through too much, so you don't get a break until the bridge (middle 8th?) "She's there when I close my eyes..." I'm an Undercover lover, and this one ne

Justin, I'm a serial monogamist, so when I go into a Dylan phase everyone in the house better look out, cuz it's gonna be all Dylan all the time. Home, car, when driving my daughters around (9 year old loves "Moonlight" from Love and Theft), even in my head when nothing's playing. The magic for me is that he writes great lyrics yes, but I always have to be drawn in b

BluzDude, You're not crazy. Dylan is notorious for being inconsistent. You can see him one night, and he's transcendent, then the next he absolutely blows. I saw the Dylan/Dead/Petty stadium tour in DC-- '86 I guess, and I was so pumped to see Dylan for the first time. The Dead played one of their worst sets ever (Jerry went into the diabetic coma within a week), Dylan was

Yep, cuz, while I love the Stones, I find the cult of celebrity terribly overrated. I always remember that Stars, with the exception of the real A-holes are just people. Of those I've met: John Updike -- sweet, wonderful man Salman Rushdie -- very down to earth Andrei Codrescu -- Complete Tool, one of the slimiest people I've ever met. Cameron Manheim (sp?) -- lovely

Follow this link for a list of best boots from every year. Then you can go to expectingrain.com where they have an A-Z list of boots to download. I went apesh*t on there two years ago. Got the best from each year. The organization of Bob boots is utterly unbelievable. After looking at the best of, go back to the home page of that site. Unreal.

GHS is so special because it has a certain mood that runs through the whole record. I've never quite been able to classify it, but when you want to hear GHS, there isn't another record in their catalog quite like it. Same with Between the Buttons. I defy you to find the album that fits that same mood. Not so for a lot of their catalogue: If you just listened to Beggars, you

Skipstone pegged it. I've been listening to ER nonstop for the last two weeks. Summer Romance is especially well-woven. The more I listen to ER the more surprised I am that it gets trounced so much. Granted the songs aren't classics by any stretch, but the guitars are beautifully recorded and alive.

Power outage during Shattered was the first show in Philly, 1989. They dropped the song for the tour thinking it was bad luck. I was there. You had no idea what was going on because they didn't have any power to tell you what had happened. WE just hoped and prayed it wouldn't cancel the show. Seems to me they got it back up in 20 minutes or so. I was at First Night in RFK too. N

Saw Elvis Costello at the hockey rink at my college -- late 80s. It was just Elvis with an acoustic guitar. He brought a spinning wheel with 100+ songs of his on it. I thought he would NEVER EVER stop. Went on for four hours. My roommate, who was an Elvis freak, loved every second of it.

<That live version from the 78 tour on SitS blows away the studio verison.> Amen to that. It's a jamming record and the live versions from 78 and 81 especially are absolutely on fire. Just my Imagination, Lies, Respectable. Aside form Tattoo You, nothing since has been so perfect for the road or so well represented on tour.

This is one of those songs where the lyrics on the page just don't translate. I love this tune. Probably in my top 10 Stones songs of all time. Mick's clipped delivery -- like "East River TruCKers" just mirrors the biting riff so well that it transcends the lyrics alone. And I agree the version on "Sucking" is tremendous. Check out "Some Girls Are B

Fingerprint File Soul Survivor Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing in the Shadow -- I think they could pull this off -- with horns and overdriven guitars. That would be a blast! I'll swap Winter in for a ballad.

IORR -- Mick butcher's the lyrics. I mean he can't be bothered to get the first line even close to the proper lyric or even have what he sings make any sense. And the song has totally lost whatever bite it once had. Miss You -- Even if played well Sympathy -- The guitars have become so bad on this one; it can be painful.

Friggin' GREAT moment in the film and my absolute favorite on the Soundtrack. You can hear the joy in his voice and he is so into it. If rock and roll singers had to be on key all the time we'd be without some pretty awesome bands and singers!
