1. Gimme Shelter Soundtrack version -- I like the "But it's Alight, yeah it's alright" better than the Ya Ya's drawn out one -- Was that overdubbed or did they just change it? 2. Flashpoint Version 3. Hampton '81 -- sloppy and grungy

I'm liking it. Not as solid on the back end, but the first five or six are really solid. Seeing them May 30th in Salt Lake City at the Depot. Best venue in town by miles.

I've always loved the visual the moment Taylor starts soloing. Mick's eyes pop open like it's something he's never heard before. He kinda freezes in amazement and then starts grooving again. Keith is just ripping the chords.

Great tour. I saw the back-to-back shows in DC. The first night was so-so. I thought, ah well, maybe it will never have the same buzz for that it always did. Then the second night was just absolute magic. The set lists both nights were great, with a bunch of different stuff played the second night. I consider it to be the best Stones show I ever saw. It just crackled with energy. I was a

Love, love Dylan. Neil is not far behind. I have never gotten on the Bruce bandwagon. I liked Nebraska but don't own anything else, though I did have the cassette of Born in the USA.

Really the first taste of the Beatles as solo artists. It's interesting to revisit it when you're in a "George" mood, then when you're in a "John is the best and Paul is shite" mood. Like Exile in that it's got some fairly lame stuff on it in terms of pure songs -- "Good Night" anyone? Yet it works as a whole. Had it on in the car last week

I've always felt IORR was the muddiest sounding of this era. Has the remastering helped it at all? Apologies is it has its own thread already.

Stoneswashed, If you take the album track-by-track, there are some less than stellar songs. However, the overall effect of the album is bigger than the sum of its parts. Yes, aside from "Happy", "Tumbling Dice" and "All Down the Line" there aren't many songs that would have made singles, some of them are barely songs. What I love about it is that it so

That makes sense to me, tomcat. I think it's that the setlists, and more importantly, the arrangements aren't that different (and no I'm not a setlist whiner)! So, simply listening offers fewer surprises. That said, there is an energy live that is simply unmatched with this band. Even in Salt Lake on the last tour, I was worried about whether they would meet my expectations

OK, now that I've been OMG'd, I will add that the iPod earbuds do suck royally, and a decent set of headphones make a big difference. In real life, I've got two kids and a 94 Honda with a mediocre sound system. If it's a good song, it'll sound great on anything. I can't afford a sound system at home that will unleash the sonic revelations of vinyl vs. CD. I j

I resisted, and heck yes, I'm glad I caved. 1. When listening on headphones, I don't feel I'm missing sonic quality. 2. Your whole collection travels wherever you go. 3. The shuffle function means I have heard songs I haven't heard for years! You appreciate your old music when it's mixed, and you don't even have to stand on a chair to reach the first part of

I'm with john r here. Undercover was arguably the last time you heard a single by the Stones and said, "Whoa! That's the Stones? Cool." Most of the more recent singles are far more predictable. That's the first time I've heard the SAL version. Ronnie sounds great, and the tune is far more interesting than the 89 versions, though I was glad they played it all t

That's a shame. I discovered him through a Bloodshot Records sampler years back. I agree that Far From Perfect is a terrific album. If you have any twang in your life, you'll like this one.

Tell Tale Signs is an amazing record, but it takes a looong time to digest. Most of the alternate versions are eye-opening. You can hear how songs evolved from other songs. Snippets of lyrics from one song form the basis of another in the released canon. As for three versions of Mississippi, you have to absorb each one over time. At first, I thought, "Ugh, these can't hold a candl

I have just started getting into RH. I like Ole Tarantula and the new one, Goodnight Oslo. Am digging my way into the back catalog now. Luminous Groove (box set) awaits me at the library. Would love to hear other people's thoughts on Robyn. I looooove Underwater Moonlight by the Soft Boys. That's a great record.

Chiming in late, but how Sterdan could place Achtung Baby in the Missteps and Stumbles category is beyond me. That record is one of the best reinventions by any band ever. It's almost U2's Bitches Brew, imo. Rattle and Hum at the Summit? What a tired record that was. Aside from a few new tracks, that was a deep-freeze turkey. (Words applied on the release of Black and Blue from

I'd much rather hear he's taking a break than planning to release three albums in one year. They went from good, to mediocre, to horrendous -- that three pack. Take some time and put out an album of your best songs, Ryan. Leave the dross for the bootleggers!

I first got into the Stones in 78, several months too late to see them live -- Mom and Dad would have probably said no anyway. So, LYL was the closest live document to the band I was just starting to love. At age 11 LYL captured this out of control, wild abandon that at that age I was just starting to even think about. That album feels to me like sex, drugs, and rock and roll played LOUD,
