Quotestonesstein When I was at UVA in the 80s and worked in the Rare Book Library within Alderman Library, I discovered an entire collection of 1st Editions of all of his published books. I spent many a morning at work reading LF. I have not read him in over 3 decades. That will change. May the Angels take him, and may God rest his soul. I . . . was at UVA in the 80s, too, as an Engli

Louisiana opened up a whole bunch of new eligible categories this week, which is kind of unfortunate in a way because our weather has been similar to Texas, and highways have been closed in addition to pharmacies, etc., so vaccine delivery has been affected. Hopefully with a gradual thaw coming things will pick up.

I had the first shot (Pfizer) last week, didn't feel a thing, arm sore for a few days. I think as people are saying it's the reaction to the second one that's more significant, though friends have said they had no significant reaction to the second dose, either.

This is just looking for things to worry about. Nobody's going to have to be concerned about ticket prices any time soon, and there are way more pressing problems in the meantime.

Putting the recent allegations to one side is a lot easier said than done, especially when they’ve been around for years.

QuoteHairball Same here Aquamarine - I always thought he was British, and even my wife who is British thought he was British! Some of my earliest memories are listening to the Sound of Music soundtrack album w/my older sister c. '65. RIP - Christopher Plummer Even I'm British! (Originally.)

So I was today-years-old when I learned he wasn't British, however being Canadian is just as good! He had incredible range, and just personified "class." Great actor. RIP.

QuoteNilsHolgersson How does Keith post on Instagram? He doesnt have a mobile phone number.. If he's got a laptop or a computer, he's good. Though I doubt he actually posts these things himself.

Yay, I'm finally eligible for the vaccine! Boo, I can't find anyplace where it's available. Best I could do was a couple of waiting lists.

That photo of him being knighted by the Queen is iconic in almost too many ways to count. Two old warriors, still (just about) standing. So sad that his time finally ran out, but a life so well-lived. RIP, Captain Tom.

Quotekovach QuoteAquamarine 1. The reason you should care if you've had a vaccine and the people around you haven't, is that you could still transmit the virus to them even if you don't have it yourself. I don't mean to sound callous but assuming these folks had the opportunity to be vaccinated and declined, is it really our responsibility to protect them from their own stu

All bands get rusty when they're off the road, no matter for how long. It may just take a little longer to get up to speed this time.

QuoteGasLightStreet New Orleans Jazz Fest is scheduled for October 8-17. I won't be going. Mostly because it would be a bad idea but partially because I highly doubt it will happen - there are way too many selfish people spreading COVID. The numbers have come down in Louisiana and people are running around saying "I had COVID, I'm immune!" - I heard someone say that yester

The Hives are in the second week of a World Wide Web tour, during which they're playing hour-long live shows performed at their base in Sweden, but at different times depending on the city they're performing in virtually (for example, Friday I watched the NYC show, which was at 6 p.m. in my time zone but must have been about 1 a.m. in Sweden). It was amazingly high energy, you were ab

I've got the Mark I which I love, and I would say $400 is a very decent price for the Mark II. (Assuming it's in good shape.) Edited to add--these things are all but indestructible!

QuoteBig Al QuoteBeast QuoteBig Al I read in the news about the ‘Kent’ variant. Is it only the U.K. press that are dubbing it that? Probably yes, because Kent (where it is believed to have originated) means nothing to the rest of the world! I've also heard the strain referred to by its "official" name, which is B.1.1.7. Hi, Beast. Yes, that’s absolutely what I thought. I res

My local congressman-elect died of Covid last night, aged 41 (I didn't vote for him, but he was still a human being with a wife and two small children), and now we have to have a special election. He had all the fancy drugs, to no avail, and died about two weeks after being diagnosed, if that. The head of the medical facility where he died said that he died of Covid, "nothing else.&qu

Quotestone4ever notice how it all but disappeared in the summer, in Britain it was down to a few deaths each day, this when lockdowns were lifted and places were packed with holiday makers from the cities. Did you notice how after all this holiday making and merrymaking, it came roaring back worse than before? Due to all these people packed together? (Not that it had all but disappeared in

I've been internet-free over Christmas thanks to the Nashville bomber, and now I'm back I see stupid is still alive and well. Maybe if we substituted smallpox/polio for Covid the point would become clearer?
