RONNIE LANE'S APPEAL FOR A.R.M.S.
ACTION RESEARCH FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
INGLEWOOD,CA:FORUM
12/6/83

Source A: 7 tracks. 1st Gen Cassette -> DA20 -> CDRW700 -> EAC -> FLAC Frontend Level 8

These tracks were originally pasted onto Disk 3 of the Dec 5th show I posted yesterday as tracks 5 through 11. For "logical" reasons I renumbered them 1 through 7. This is from the same taper/uploader.

Source B: "Keessie's source" 23 tracks CD-R to wave> to flac with dBpowerAMP Music Converter

These tracks were on an 5 CD upload of Keessie on another tracker. These were CD 4 and 5, but again for logical reasons I renumbered them 1 and 2.

This is all I have for the Dec. 6th show. Once more I thank the original tapers/uploaders. These are definitely two different audience sources and sadly two different incomplete sources that will not patch together to a complete show. Check on Lossless verifies ok. I will post samples from both captures to let you hear the difference.

Enjoy the goosebumps, share the gigs, support the artists!

Mick Taylor - Soundboards (FLAC)
Info hash 98537ac63bf8ca55c7814e80c59f8c7752dc9ef2
Description Ok... Hi again folks. I thought that I would try to post one more listing to go with our upcoming Holiday celebration. This one here is quite a special treat, especially so for all you guitar afficionados. Hey, here's something for you guys to try... I challenge you to do a total blind listening test to one of your friends, you know... the one that knows guitarists backwards and forwards. Have them just listen to the two very first tracks and then name the guiatrist. Simple... right? I know that you will get one response probably more than others... that being Jeff Beck, and then some may run off a few other names of familiarity to them afterwards. But, I bet that virtually none of them will just immediately name: Mick Taylor. Check it out... and see. Since we are talking about this first part, in general, let me say that if you do not know this recording then it is something to hear. This is an absolutely sparkling, and ultra clean soundboard that has complete and total left and right channel separation. And, I mean, there seems to be hardly no mix at all. There are a few slight level drops along the way, nothing serious and those could be easily fixed I believe, but this is how you get it from me. And, trust me, you are gonna love this one. The other part of this bootleg 3 disc set is another excellent show given almost exactly a year later at another venue altogether. I think one of these shows might be a little more complete here than what fileset has been traded before in some circles. Anyway, you can read below all the info about this whole bootleg set. It comes like this so I thought it would be right to share like it should be left, all together for your complete satisfaction. And, I think that will be pretty much a certainty. Happy Holidays to all and thanks for making Dime such a wonderful place, and keep it up in the next year! Enjoy...

Ronnie Lanes Appeal for
Action Research into Multiple Sclerosis ("ARMS")
Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
December 8, 1983

Recording: Sony ECM 150 Mic's > Sony Walkman D6 Cassette > TDK MA-R90 (Metal Tape)

Transfer: Played on Nakamichi CR-3A > Analog input of Lynx One Card with A>D converter >
Music Only Computer. Indexed with Sound Forge 4.0 & Burned to Mitsui (pre-MAMA) Gold
CD with CD Architect software.

Upload: Gold CD extracted with EAC to Internet Accessible Computer > FLAC

My ticket stubs say I was in the 300's, but I know for sure that I sat in the 100/200's behind the
stage. Back in the day, Uncle Bobo (Bill Graham) was a fan of mounting a set of high quality
speakers behind the stage. MSG was packed to the rafters for these shows and seats anywhere in
front of the stage could not be had for these shows for the love of money. I remember being
centered just below the rear facing speakers, which produced a very nice sound (except for the
screaming shrill, whom you will have no problem identifying.)

This recording has never been released by me. It is in the hands of just a few friends in analog
format. I am releasing this now ahead of other projects, as it was recently requested by a friend
whom I don't doubt would gladly do the same for me with any of his master recordings. I'm
pretty sure there is a bootleg video of this show that is circulating, however, I don't think that is
the complete show. This is the full show from beginning to end. Note too, the set list posted at
dbetree is wrong in a two places. Jeff Beck's fourth song is Freeway Jam, not Blue Wind.
(Andy Fairweather Low sings on People Get Ready and Going Down.) Also, Ronnie Lane sang
Long Gone before Goodnight Irene. If there is a favorable response to this show and a demand
for more, in a week or two I'll convert and upload the December 9, 1983 ARMS MSG show,
recorded from the exact same location.

Hope you all enjoy this show. If you do, please pass it along to all your friends. As always your
comments and favorable star ratings are greatly appreciated. (May those who sell this, or any of
my recordings on e-bay, etc., reap all the bad karma you justly deserve.)

This is a "must have" (Thanks Erik):

THE ROLLING STONES - PLACE PIGALLE
A Vinyl Gang Product 362

LINEAGE:
Original VGP CD -> WAV (EAC v. 0.95 beta 4 - secure, Offset "actual") -> FLAC (flacfrontend, level 6) -> You

DATE:
Studio Outtakes 1972 - 1981

QUALITY:
Excellent Mono (for the most)

COMMENTS:
Essential material, put together on a 4CD set by VGP. If you got this one, plus "Accidents Will Happen" (VGP version), you have the most important studio outtakes from the 2nd part of the 70s.

For the most, the songs here are taken from best possible sources.
VGP did some great EQ work - hardly any hiss. BUT they turned the songs into mono - while some of them were available from hissier stereo sources on other bootlegs.
Some people prefer the sound of the rare OutsiderBird bootlegs over the VGP.....they have more hiss, but also more punch. It depends on the listener which kind of sound one prefer.
In either case, this is a great compilation of studio outtakes - and a MUST have. Get it here from silvers

Notes: This was the free Natural Resources Defense Council concert done by the Stones to raise awareness of climate change and global warming. People entered an online contest for tix, and I managed to win. I flew down from the Bay Area and brought my aged Sony D-3. There were metal detectors, but I slipped it in. The seats were assigned, ours were not the best, side of the stage and low, out of the line of sound, but a decent enough recording here. Hey it was a free show, so how could I not like this show. I thought the Stones were brilliant this night, a real event in front of crowd ready to party...enjoy!!

Nice sounding recording from the 3rd show of the A Bigger Bang tour. I hadn't been plannng on catching a show this early in the tour, but when one of the "cheap" $99 tickets in the 1st 10 rows popped up, I couldn't pass it up. The crowd is noticable at times, but nothing too bad. Enjoy.

Rolling Stones CD transfer of the vinyl LP Some tramps (no label) total 42.23

I made a CDR from the vinyl album with my Philips CDR 930. Then I encoded the tracks with Flac Frontend V1.7.1. Next I used Trader's little helper for the torrent creation.

1. When the whip comes down 10.30
2. Start me up 4.03
3. Claudine 7.53
4. Miss you 9.13
5. Just my imagination 7.02
6. I can't help it 3.37

Artwork is from the original simple black and white LP cover.

These are early versions and never released tracks, some have probably never been released on cd. I always admired Rolling Stones experts like Nico Zentgraf and Dieter Hoffmann who offered in their works exact data on recordingdates and the sequence of the developing tracks. But can we ever be sure?

Dieter Hoffmann presents his comments on these tracks in the two volumes of Das Weissbuch Recording Index 1961-2003, (May 2003):

1. When the whip comes down: version II, already finished lead and backing vocals, additional pedal steel guitar by Ron Wood, Paris, Autumn 1977. This version also to be found on the bootleg cd Twilight zone.

2. Start me up: version I, this is not the reggae-ish version a.k.a. Never stop. Hoffmann calculates this as 4.13, Paris, Spring 1978. According to Hoffmann never released on a cd, so this one could be unique.

3. Claudine: version I, demo version with drums, bass, acoustic guitar, two electric guitars, already finished lyrics, Paris, Autumn 1977. Also released on the bootleg cd Megatrax Vol. 1.

4. Miss you: version IV, part, additional saxophone by Mel Collins and harp by Sugar Blue on version III, Paris, Autumn 1977. Released on bootleg cd's More works, Place Pigalle 5/6, Some tracks II.

5. Just my imagination: version I, according to Hoffmann 7.09, basic track with all instruments incl. backing vocals, Mick Jagger's early lead vocal "... look through my window", Paris, Autumn 1977. With soft count in 1, 2, 3, 4. Could be unique as never been released on cd.

6. I can't help it, a.k.a. Love you too much: version III, Hoffmann calculates this as 3.23, Paris, Spring 1978. Are the vocals not at least partly by Keith? Also released incomplete, only 2.27, on the bootleg cd Megatrax Vol. 1. This longer version maybe unique.

Review From STONES FAQ :

Excellent stereo soundboard recording; probably the most well known boot of
the tour. Legend has it the tape was stolen from the soundboard before the
show ended which explains why the end is missing. Good performance except the
incomplete encore "Street Fighting Man" sounds completely unrehearsed; it's
terrible. Original LPs sound better than any CD release; in fact The Swingin'
Pig "Out on Bail" and Scorpio's "Capital Connection" both appear to be dubbed
from vinyl.

Bob Marley & The Wailers (with Ron Wood on encores)
November 30, 1979
Oakland Auditorium Arena
Oakland, California, USA

From 1st gen. Black and white multi-camera in house DVD video. No officially released content.

A bit marginal in the video quality - Kinda dark and rather unstable in some spots, but a lot better than other copies of this show I've seen. The soundboard audio is very good to excellent sound quality and a definite improvement over previously circulating copies. This show is unique because it features Ron Wood as guest rhythm guitarist on the encores. A web site also lists Donald Kinsey as a guest guitarist for this show. See [www.bobmarleyconcerts.com] for more info.

Got both shows yesterday and I compared them to VGP-266. They are STRICTLY identical (minus the sound of the tape recorder being switched off after SFM).

So it's not the sensation it could have been... If you have the VGP keep your ratio for other things grinning smiley
