This is a previously uncirculated incomplete audience recording of the Stones' 1970 gig in Helsinki, which I got a while back straight from the taper. Nothing from this show has ever surfaced until this. This is all that was recorded, as he ran out of tape just after Midnight Rambler. The complete lineage is unknown to me, but this is said to be a direct transfer from the master. Sound quality is listenable, but i'd say this is for completists only.

Special thanks to DRNO for the artwork

Cleaning the polluted waters with source material!

The Rolling Stones
October 5, 1970
Festhalle Frankfurt
Frankfurt, Germany

Source: Audience Analog Reel To Reel

Recording Information: AEG Telefunken with a Philips microphone.

Lineage: Reel To Reel Master>DAT(16 bit/48kHz)>DAT(16 bit/48kHz)>
WAV(16 bit/48kHz)>FLAC(16 bit/48kHz)

Mastering Informtion: DAT converted to Wave optically via a Prodiff 96
digital soundcard into Wavelab. Individual Wave tracks created in CD Wave
Editor. Wave files converted to FLAC (level 8) using FLAC Frontend.

I'm not a proponant of re-sampling files just so that they are CD ready; the
CD medium is slowly being replaced by hard disk where there is no red book
standard bitrate & frequency encoding.

Please note that these FLAC files are not 16 bit/44.1kHz CD ready; rather
they have been kept at their native format of 16 bit/48kHz. If you would like
to burn the files to CD you will have to convert/resample the FLAC files to
16 bit/44.1kHz or use a CD burning program that will convert the FLAC files
from 16 bit/48kHz to 16 bit/44.1kHz on the fly.

Running Time: 63:40

2. Roll Over Beethoven
3. Sympathy For The Devil

JEMS master recording. Poor to maybe fair sounding but very hissy recording with a good performance going on underneath all the hiss. They tease the audience with You're My Girl (I Don't Want To Discuss It) playing the intro to it not once but twice before going into the actual tunes.

Length: 30:37

Notes:
JEMS master recording and very good and clear sounding recording. Bad Company was also on the bill this night. This show captures Chris Jagger touring in support of his The Adventures of Valentine Vox the Ventriloquist album. This one is a real obscure dusty jewel from the JEMS archives. Mick Jagger's kid brother really rocks out hard here and the band is tight and the songs catchy and well performed. It is a shame he never went anywhere around this time since this really some wonderful and forgotten rock and roll being played this night. This might be the only known live recording of Chris Jagger in the 70's prior to his 1994 Atcha album.

Tracks 1-4 are from a very rare radio broadcast. I have no information other than what I can determine from listening: a local radio station sent a guy to the concert with a hand-held tape recorder. He recorded parts of the concert and then the station broadcast them over the air, shortly afterwards. I assume it was a local station because the taper seems pretty familiar with the Hell's Angels. The tape recorder starts to run low on power during "Sympathy," causing speed fluctuations, and those two versions were the last songs broadcast. I did not include those two songs in accordance with Dime policies because they are available on the official movie release "Gimme Shelter." My source was a very low generation CDR. I made some improvements using Adobe Audition. Unlike modern radio, which is extremely compressed, this broadcast benefited from compression, as the opening introduction and announcer were too loud compared to the music. I did not use any noise reduction or EQ. I rate the quality of this recording as slightly better than the well known version used on numerous bootleg releases.

Track 7 is the audio from a TV broadcast by KRON San Francisco 12/8/1969, two days after the concert. It tells the story of the events leading up to the concert, what happened there, and the immediate aftermath. It also includes excerpts of parts of the concert from a different audience recording, which is worse than either the one presented above or the well known version used on numerous bootleg releases. Someone previously edited out the commercials, and I edited out excerpts of the official release "Let's Get Together" by Jefferson Airplane, which was played during the broadcast. This track is not the greatest fidelity but it's listenable. Not a big deal since it's mainly talking. If you are familiar with the story of the concert, you may want to skip it. I made some adjustments using Adobe Audition; nothing too extreme.

Presented in FLAC 1.2.1. No artwork, sorry.
