What a lousy match. Hope the final will be either Spain Germany or Holland Germany.

Now that my favourite team, Sweden, is heading back home.... I have to admit I've just loved watching the Dutch team. I'll chear for them from now on.
Unfortunately Turkey beat Croatia, just when I started to like Croatia, much because of their rock'n'roll manager. He's totally cool! And he likes the Stones.

It's really standard to predict 2-1. I personally think there will be more than three goals.. the Dutch are going to be doing a lot of scoring I think, that's what they aim for in every match. IF the Russians want to keep up they'll have to have a similair strategy, which I think actually they will. So it should be an exciting match.

I'd give the Dutch the advantage because not only do they have enough solid forwardss, they also have a really strong defense, which has been important in their previous matches as well.

My tip for tonight would be Russia 2 Holland 1. Personally I'd like Holland to win, but I think the Russians will struggle hard and prevail in the end.

As I said before I think Holland will reach the final. Spain and Holland is a hard one to predict but I think the Azzuri are just so damn hard to beat once they get their game in play. I really don't think Spain will be able to break them down as they play so defensively minded and then hit teams on the break as they did against Germany in the World Cup semi-final two years ago. Spain's problem, like it always has been, is a raised expectation from having played too many middle quality teams in the build up to the really big matches that count.

Basel is definitely taken over by the Dutch today. Thousands of them on every street and square. And it's beautiful weather today, sunny and 27 degrees.

I remember that Argentina was predicted an easy finalist of the 2006 WC after the game against Serbia. And i've seen many "surprises" in the finals. Surprises being "the usual suspects" (Italy, Germany, Brazil etc) reaching the finals after a false start or bad playing. Of course this is not a rule written on stone but... Soccer is not a sport where the team that plays better is going to win for sure. I would say that it is the team that makes less mistakes

As opposed to who? We had Croatia who could have gone all the way had they not had such bad penalty takers. And many people fancied Portugal. Is that easy? Maybe on paper the semi-final against Turkey is easier than say Holland v Spain or Italy, assuming they beat Russia but you know anything can happen in football.

Yes, I live in Basel and it is a crazy atmosphere today... The "procession" towards the stadium is just on-going. See the pics on my link. It is very hot in Basel today and really orange everywhere.

Really great to see all those pictures from Basel. My wife and I were there in 1995 to see the Rolling Stones Voodoo Lounge Tour at the St. Jakob stadium. We had a great time then. Very nice city with nice people. Good memories
