THE greatest Stonesy song the Stones never wrote
Posted by: Silver Dagger ()

IMHO Slow Death by The Flamin' Groovies is THE best Stonesy songs never written by The Stones. Here it is in all its glory. Legend has it that when then NME journalist Nick Kent played it to Keith, Mr Richards said that he couldn't remember writing it.

Here it is in all its glory, live from The Marquee 72.

Ain't That A Lot Of Love - Taj Mahal (Rock'n'Roll Circus) -
although this doesn't necessarily need two guitars ;-)

Second guess: Wild Child - Lou Reed

A great song. Always thought that it was a rip off of Gimme Some Lovin' or was it that Spencer Davis Group ripped off the Homer banks original?

I thought that too, actually. But I like the feel of the Taj Mahal version much more than the rather "stiff" feel of the Spencer Davis version.

Jealous Again by the Black Crowes sounds quite similar to You Got Me Rocking in the beginning.

Check out "Teenage Head" by Flamin' Groovies....the best ALBUM the Stones never recorded. I remember Keith liking this record back in 1971.

The Crowes - Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye.

Really the entire Southern Harmony and Musical Companion album could be a Stones album...

added in 1972 by The Rollin' Stones (Dallas Rehearsals) - or was that plain acoustic? Not sure, but maybe you thought of a much rockier treatment anyway, as they stuck very much to Johnsons approach.

Stay With me - The Faces.
Thee was a Stones bootleg with a song called Angel Girl. It wasn't Stones, but the ones who made it sounded very similar to something the Stones has made.

On the boot I heard it said it was The Stones, but it wasn't. But it sounded like a fusion between Angie and Memory Motel. I loved it.

It's "Tom Scholz" actually, founder member of Boston. Doesn't get along to well with ol' Robert, does it?
(Btw. it's about the "Rockman" amp, Kent)
