Keith plays JJF live in Open G. The studio recording I believe, is in standard tuning.

I play it in Open G
Capo 4th fret
then on the 7th and 9th fret is where i put my fingers
The 4 means the capo on the 4th
D -4-4--------------------4-4
B -4-4--------------------4-4
G -4-4------7-----7-----7-4-4
D -4-4--7-9---7-9---7-9---4-4
G -4-4--------------------4-4
- ---------------------------
or with strumming all the strings
D -4-4--4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4
B -4-4--4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4
G -4-4--4-4-7-4-4-7-4-4-7-4-4
D -4-4--7-9-4-7-9-4-7-9-4-4-4
G -4-4--4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4

You can also add:
D -4-4--------------------4-4
B -4-4--------------------4-4
G -4-4----4-7---4-7---4-7-4-4
D -4-4----4-7---4-7---4-7-4-4
G -4-4--9-----9-----9-----4-4
- ---------------------------
The chorus is standard Keith-riffing with index finger on 7th. 14th. and 9th.
The rest is easy to figure out.

But is it really the same riff pattern as in open E/D?

No, because you need to shift everything one string up. And I don't think he uses a capo on the studio version.

I think the Rock n' Roll Circus version is also standard tuning.
I can only hear one guitar on that verion - where's Brian???

There's two guitars in the studio version. The guitar that plays the intro is in standard tuning with a capo on the 3rd fret. The other guitar which plays the main riff is in open E (which can be open D with a capo on the 2nd fret).

There's more than 2 guitars on the single, and the first 2 we hear are definitely tuned to open E without a capo on the 3rd fret.
