A very rare event took place in my neighborhood yesterday. A jazz funeral was held in celebration of the life of John Brunious, leader of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for 23 years. Jazz Funerals are usually reserved for only the most highly respected members of the jazz community, but in recent years, others have had the honor of a jazz funeral given for them. I have been living in New Orleans since 1973, and this is the first jazz funeral I have witnessed in person. The first video shows the beginning of the second-line, as it leaves Preservation Hall.
Wow, I've never even seen a video of such an event before. That's impressive indeed and a wonderful way to say goodbye to someone you love. This person, whoever it is, will keep on living in the music then, I think.
