I just got done watching this show called "America's Next Great Band", which is some kinda American Idol rip-off but with full bands. Tonight's episode was Stone's themed and oh my god, I think I need some therapy. Just imagine a bunch of talentless emo and hick bands butchering your favorite Stone's songs.
Hearing one of them "play" Gimme Shelter was worse than having my balls stomped on by a pair of moutain climbing boots (the ones with long spikes on them).

It's a Fox show (which explains it's lameness), and I believe you can watch highlights (I'd call them lowlights) of that Stone's holocaust at their website if you really feel like losing a part of your soul.

Next week is Rod Stewart...

Do you mean theyre doing Rod Stewart songs next week or is it Rod's turn to murder some good Stones' tunes...?

I wouldn't call those bands talentless. They all gave their own interpretation of Stones' songs, which were far from the original in most cases.

Well, maybe it was a bit harsh but I figured having them play other artist's songs was a way of encouraging them to expand their expertise and analyze what makes the hit makers hit makers. Assuming this, all of those bands missed completely what the Stone's are all about.

I'm sure the fans of Muddy Waters or Chuck Berry were thinking the same way when they heard the covers the Stones did of the songs of their idols.

Anyway there's good and bad music; just don't listen to the bad ones.

I do that quite often, channel-surfing I think they call it.
It amazes me how with 100-plus channels, there can still be nothing on!

I've seen a few cover bands murder some Stones songs but I amways enjoy the fact that someone somewhere is playing some Stones and hopefully that will go on for ever. I even heard a Mariachi tribute to the Stones, really no big deal.

Hehe - true. Remember that old Springsteen song "57 (?) channels and there's nothing on" (or maybe just "57 channels" don't have that album)?

I'm wearing plaid right now.
I have a glass of red almost every night.
My cat died this past April,
and I find myself going to bed around 8-9pm every night, waking up about 4-5am.

This is beginning to sound like a Seinfeld episode!

IMO, the WORST SUCKIEST moment was when the first band
was playing Get Off Of My Cloud. At one point, the guitarist (apparently thinking that this was "clever") was playing the main riff from "Satisfaction" during the verse of GOOMC. How stupid. Then they modulated (changed keys) for the final verse.

As they Spinal Tap pointed out: it can be a fine line between stupid and clever. Or in this case, stupid and awful... or just plain awful.

I'm sure that bands will not be judged by the public on their ability to cover Stones' songs...

Saw that show last night,the only group l felt did an ok job on a Stones song,was the guys that played "Last Time".The others were horrible , l mean "gomc" was bad,and then we had "lam Free" and "GS",what were they thinking?
and those litle shits playing "JJF".
IMO what a waste of air time..

If you're not familiar with the film, it consists almost entirely of two middle aged men engaged in conversation over dinner about all things great and small - including hot water bottles for bed, etc.... An absolute hoot ;-)
