His ability and love to recreate Keith's playing with naturalness ...his inability yet shear will to get Jimi down...avant garde? Non.....albeit a bit trashy......catch him in Toronto canada soon

No, I mean MICK Green. He played in a later version of Johnny Kidd and The Pirates, the original band of 'Shakin' All Over', which the Who covered. Then the reformed Pirates of the 70's. It was in an old Trouser Press article on the 100 greatest guitarist that stated Pete nicked the 'wind mill' from him. Roy Carr wrote an article in the November '76 NME praising Micks playing. Check out the Pirates album Skull Wars. Vinyl only I think. There's also a cd called 'Don't Munchen It - Live In Europe'. A must for pub rock fans. He also plays on Paul McCartney's 'Back In The USSR' LP and is on Pauls 'Live at The Cavern Club' dvd with David Gilmore, Ian Paice and Pete Wingfield. It's a shame people don't know who he is. He is one of the unsung/unknown greats of the late 50's/early 60's english music scene. I hear he's reformed The Pirates and is/was playing the London club curcuit. I wish he'd come to the US. One of my guitar heroes.

Well, I'll give 3 or 4 of my favorites who DON'T get enough credit, I think.

Robbie Robertson: Terrific player. Great tone. No flashy stuff,
just a great sound. His playing on Before The Flood and with Dylan in 1966
is outstanding. Too bad he doesn't play much these days and is too Hollywood.

Don Rich: Guitar player with Buck Owens. Bakersfield-Tele sound.

Cliff Gallup: Gene Vincent's guitar player.

George Harrison: although he's mentioned on this thred,
he doesn't get enough credit. Even people writing Beatle books
question his ability. But he's played too many great and memorable
guitar parts to be forgotten. Take that descending guitar riff in the song Help!
That's pure genius.

Paul McCartney: McCartney's one of the most original guitar players
I've ever heard (electric, I mean). Solos on Taxman, Good Morning Good Morning,
some of Abbey Road, McCartney album. He comes up with some stuff that's very original.

Neil Young cause I saw him a couple nights ago. Eric Clapton because he is Eric Clapton, and a Mick Taylor/Jerry Garcia tie so I can slip another name in there

Lou Reed ? He only knows about 3 chords. Admittedly he uses those 3 chords very effectively and writes great songs and beautiful lyrics.

Under 25 ? You are referring to their ages, right ?
Johnny Lang is 26
Derek Trucks is 28
Kenny Wayne SHEPHERD is 30 years old.

Lou Reed was a bad bad man when he was younger. He certainly knows a lot more than 3 chords (I know that was hyperbole, but please - listen to Over You from VU live in 1969, the chord structure is breathtaking). Lou's solo in I Heard Her Call My Name is one of the most vicious things I've ever heard on record, and his rhythm playing (in his younger days, at least) runs neck-in-neck with Keith. NOBODY was a more relentless rhythm guitarist than young Lou Reed.

Rant out of the way, my list with reasons:

Keith Richards - plays the space better than anyone not named Leo Nocentelli, great composer with a perfect sense of song structure, dynamite tone and a versatility rivalled by no one (outside of maybe Jimmy Page)
Young Lou Reed - Aggression coupled with tunefullness, the most advanced understanding of the noise/melody dichotomy, speed for something other than the sake of speed - using speed to convey emotion, absolutely no fear/recognition of "rules"
Chuck Berry - wonderful ear for voicings, pretty much wrote the book on rock guitar playing, incredibly tasteful, impeccable sense of melody.

Other Receiving Consideration:
Robbie Robertson
Jimmy Page
Robbie Krieger
Jeff Buckley
Pete Townshend

Mind you, this is just RnR guitarists, hence no Hubert Sumlin, Bo Diddley, Robert Johnson, Snooks Eaglin, Ernest Ranglin, Aresenio Rodriguez (who actually plays tres, but it's close enough), James Burton, Leo Nocentelli, Steve Cropper, Barney Kessel, Elmore James, and on and on and on...
