Not sure what to say about Sass. Racine was a pretty good album, Make You A Believer a pretty strong song, but she's not been around much that I could tell since the Toronto Rocks concert (she was good, and it was a nice touch to bring Jeff Healey out for a number - he hadn't been scheduled). Lately the only thing she's really had much publicity for was being one of the hosts of Canadian Idol - I guess I'm a bit of a Reality TV snob, for me that's the kiss o' death... Think she was also moving towards bluegrass as well... Liked her, but she didn't produce much and seems kinda nowhere at the moment? Strong vocals though...
Lucinda Williams who I saw last night at the amazing Indigo venue in London is the raunchiest woman musician I've heard for years. Her Real Live Bleeding Fingers sounds like an Exile outtake. Better than Sheryl Crow. If you haven't heard her then check out her excellent World Without Tears album.

She must be a very unsteady performer then. I saw her last Tuesday (13 November) in Basel and the she was about the lamest thing I saw for years. Looking like drunk, playing guitar like a real beginner (strumm strumm strumm), introducing every song with "This song..." or "This song I wrote...". She even had a file with her with her songs in it and she was actually always looking into that file when singing! A truly uninspired performer in my opinion. The Stones are better than that.
Great to see Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders mentioned here. She doesn't sound like the Stones, but when it comes to textiles - it's easy to see who her main inspiration was! She's a huge fan of Keith's. Once, think it was in NY, she and Keith met in a club and she decided to take him home. She forgot to mention that she was married (or something) to Ray Davies, and that he was at home that night. Keith has mentioned in an interview that he felt very embarrassed. Davies was used to that kind of behaviour. Chrissie's a tough lady to live with, apparently.

.....and I like the fact that she introduces her songs with comments....and it's a good thing she has a KICK ASS band with her so F.U.C. the Captain doesn't have to listen to just "strumm, strumm, strumm"

yeah, the "answer to Exile" thing was overstated, but it is an excellent album.

yeah, but not a surprise she was inspired by the stones - she went to high school with me in a very much classic rock community.
