Here in Finland my favourite team, TPS from Turku, won the finals of SM-liiga, the Finnish hockey league (by wins 4-1 against HPK, Hämeenlinna). It was a true miracle on ice. Of the 14 teams, they had the second lowest player budget, and before the season they were estimated by pro critics to hit places like 10-14. Anyway, after the regular reason they were 6th, and now after very strong performances, playing so called offence-oriented "flow hockey" they won the cup (gold medals). Of 15 play off games they won 12 (the series: 4-0, 4-2, 4-1). A Cinderella story. Truely amazing.

The whole city of Turku (my birth town) has been celebrating two days now. Unfortunately I happen to live in Tampere so I cannot join the party.

Even though, TPS is a minor team by Finnish standards these days, they are a traditional team, and even the biggest team from 1989 to 2001. During those years the team won 8 championships and produced a lot of quite high profile NHL players, such as Saku and Mikko Koivu, Miikka Kiprusoff, Sami Salo, Kimmo Timonen, Jere Lehtinen, Antero Niittymäki, etc. But the team almost got themselves bankrupt during the noughties and really hitted the low. But now "we" are back! It is good to start the "Vappu" parties (1st of May day) now, the biggest drinking party in Finland...smileys with beer

Check here the winning goal by Ilari Filppula (a bro of Detroit player Valtteri) in over-time in the third final. A HUGE goal:

Crazy stuff there. Did they check his stick for some sort of adhesive?!

Re: OT:Hockey Anyone?

Why check for adhesive? Players do that sort of thing with the puck all the time in warm ups or practice. Hell, some might even practise doing that, as obviously that guy did.

If you look carefully at the topics there are a fair number of other topics.

Imagine Washington and San Jose in the final - there'd be no winner. Fortunately that won't happen.

I have my doubts about the Sharks - they've got a great track record for that kind of thing. The Wings were off. We'll see what happens Sunday. Could be typical Sharks hockey - choke.

World Championship started in Germany with a 2:1 victory of the German underdogs against the US.

More than 77.800 people in the stadium!
What a great event !!

Wrong Skippy. Only 8 more wins before the Sharks hoist Lord Stanley's Cup.smileys with beer

Ha ha. San Jose faced an exhausted Detroit team. And SJ was the better team this year. I'm leaning towards San Jose not getting past the other team in the Western Conference.

Canadiens just might do something. They are an underdog. Still pulling for all the teams except San Jose and Boston. If a Canadian team gets in, I hope they win. It would be great if Vancouver got their first Cup ever or if Chicago got their first Cup since the 1400s or whenever. San Jose can go fall into the Pacific.
