Charmed Life, at least the snippet I've listened to, sounds like a song that was made by a computer guy using some words Mick Jagger sung during his career combined with a computer-generated beat.
I can't imagine he's even been in a studio for this shit.
Still, I kinda liked it.

'Wandering spirit' outtake, although this is a newer version I believe.

Vice-versa? What - you mean Mick got the song title from SCL?

I'm sure SCL can answer for himself, but I assumed the name comes from a (misheard) line in 'No Expectations' ("never in my sweet, short life")

If so, its kinda nice that its all worked out in the end!

yeah, I remember that conversation about No Expectations indeed thats what it was. But then when I learned about this song I was like "Wait a minute... coondicdence? I think NOT". But in all seriosness I ask to SCL: I wonder if your name was partialy inspired, at least sub-conciousley by the song Charmed Life?

To me, the problem with CHARMED LIFE is it repeats itself over and over (kind of like "SEX DRIVE" on FLASHPOINT) but it really doesn't go anywhere.... but like BV said, it's all just a matter of taste.... BTW, it seems like AMAZON is changing it's release date on the DELUXE VERION of THE VERY BEST OF M J every few hours or something. My tracking still has me getting it on the 21st of September but who really knows... I'll believe that delivery date when it's in my hands... we'll see....

These photos are pretty old aren't they ?
They look like being taken for the Wandering Spirit promo.

Those photos are great, far better then the new cover shot of laughing Mick. Are they from an older session? Mick looks so young!

Sweet Neo Con, you might notice that those press photos are all from 1993 - taken for the Wandering Spirit release.
It still doesn't make them good tho'

interesting

so charmed life is really a commissionned song. Not really a MJ work in its final cut. And made to be a dance track.

I was in Boston over the weekend and was listening to a local radio station playing a blues set on Sunday morning.

One of the songs played was "Stop Breaking Down" off of Exile.

The next song I had never heard before but it sounded like Jagger singing.

The DJ after the set made mention of the song and said it would be on the new Jagger solo CD that was to be released this Fall.

I can't remember the name of the song but I liked it very much. I believe the DJ said that that particular song had been recorded by Jagger in 1992 and was just now being officially released.

I picked up the CD today. While "Charmed Life" will never be my favorite, its not as bad as it sounded on Youtube (the video certainly didn't help matters) and it stands head and shoulders above the Remix EP. Thank God they cut those dreadful "its a beautiful moon, come a little bit closer" whispered sweet-nothings that Mick did. The CD credits Mick, Jimmy Rip, and Karis. So who is playing bass and synthesizer?

Sorry - I haven't had a chance to read all the preceding contributions.

I just bought the Best of MJ and am blown away (and frankly surprised!) by how much I love it all. Even dogsh*t stuff like Let's Work (gulp!). Perhaps some nostalgia in there as I've avoided listening to it for 15 years!

Love Charmed Life!
Love God Gave Me Everything!
Just Another Night!
Old Habits Die Hard!
Memo From Turner!
Lucky In Love!
Evening Gown!

Sorry to enthuse so much but sometimes you're just simply in the right mood to listen and you have to crank it up LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over and out!

Pleasantly surprised. The cd actually flows pretty good. The Tosh duet is worth the price of the dvd in itself imho
