Admit it: I'll Go Crazy was their worst cover ever.

No guitars whatsoever (I'll go Lazy) . . .Lisa up there wailing like she's passing a kidney stone . . . the crowd loving every minute of it . . . and a bad song to boot.

Ladies and gentlemen, the 2007 European tour featured the Rolling Stones' worst cover ever: I'll Go Crazy.

In Paris the audience seemed to love it. The more Lisa kept screaming the more the people cheered.
I agree with it being the worst cover the Stones have ever done. Whatever happened to Get Up Stand Up. That's a classy tune.

How could I ever forget about Love Train? Now THAT is a dreadful piece of music.

Hearing Love Train in a Stones show made me wonder, OK what's the point? They didn't improve on the original.

My favorite Stones cover has to be Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me). I'm not counting the songs they covered early in their career, before Mick and Keith got their songwriting chops.

I'd love to hear them cover Harry Nilsson's Jump into the Fire from the Nilsson Schmilsson album. Not that it will ever happen.

Strange enough, in Rome it was the highlight of the show judging from the crowd's response

I don't know if it was the highlight of Rome show but I loved that song and I wanted to see it live.Don't flame me but I didn't like Mr pitful from the new box set.Maybe I'll change my mind after a few times.

I'll nominate the Stones' version of "My Girl" as their worst cover ever.

I'll second "My Girl" as the worst ever Stones cover with "Da Doo Ron Ron" a close runner-up.

Agreed, also agree with My Girl being right up there but at least that one is not played live... Let's hear some more blues covers... Sweet Home Chicago or I Can't Be Satisfied... Lisa doesn't need a solo spot.... She has a great voice so people will cheer but I don't want to see Lisa I want to hear some rock n blues.

I love the song I'll Go Crazy.
What's wrong with it ?
Mister Pitiful and Get Up Stand Up would have been nice, though.

Must agree to a large extent with Nikki.
May be a good original; but I fear they hadnt
thought thoroughly 'bout the cover choice this time.

But I'm actually picky on these matter: I neither wouldnt hear Get Up...

I'd go for having Lisa, Bernard, Blondie and Chuck be the Stones' standard opening band, and allow Lisa's time in the spotlight during the Stones' set to go away. That might be fun, and one of the boys could pop on stage every now and then to tease us. I'd rather see them than some of the openers I've endured prior to the Stones taking the stage.

Disagree, I like it. Although the song it replaced in the set, Night Time Is The Right Time, was better.

Pretty crazy to hear the run through of Thankyoufalettinmebemiceelfagain (or however Sly spells it) from the Werchter rehearsals. Now that would have been a surprise to see on stage.

I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told.
Things are moving way too slow.

What about Can't get next to you babe, there were no guitars on that one!

Cheers,

I thought it was pretty good. And don't knock Lisa. She was sexy as hell during that number.

Well - I think most of the Stones covers the last 45 years have been better than I'll Go Crazy, quite a lot better. There's really no guitars there...!
What does Jagger mean with "there's only one thing I can do now....there's only one thing I can say know" x 3 ?

I like it- also the way they started to run it straight into TD.

>> There's really no guitars there...! <<

that varies from show to show - i witnessed a couple of very nicely guitar-drenched renditions.

>> What does Jagger mean with "there's only one thing I can do now....there's only one thing I can say" x 3 ?"

it was just a "bridge" to Tumbling Dice.
at some shows it was "can you give it to me one/two/three times - can i possibly get it four times".
i thought it worked well, especially the nights when it didn't come out quite like they planned it. :E

fo' real? Harlem Shuffle is an absolute banger, with delicious guitar licks. was hoping to have heard it in nijmegen - they could have dubbed it "haarlem shuffle."

and, yes, as i pointed out, NO guitars to speak of in I'll go (L)azy! how "stones fans" can defend it is beyond me . . .

Thanks with Sssoul, yes it sure is a bridge - but I was wondering why he chose those words....would the point be that; the only song Jagger can sing is "Tumbling Dice" ? I just thought it's a thin pole/point to build a bridge on - unless there's something I don't understand.
ANd you are very right - it sounds better at some concerts than others. Sometimes, it's VERY forced - and I think Jagger hates doing that bridge. At other recordings...I have to say recordings, as I didn't see too many shows this tour....it sounds, well...OK.
I think the "You all wanna rock'n roll some more?" was a better bridge - or should I say "you all want the rock'n roll goose to go?"

oh i see what you mean now! and i don't have any theories, except that the beautiful warm round golden opening
of Tumbling Dice sure makes a glorious response to whatever Mick is going on about.
smile: in Warsaw he'd gotten to the end of the chant, and there was nothing at all -
so he turned around and told Keith "i love you!" and that's when that riff came pouring out. beauty :E

Yes - yes - that's true, it's a milestone - that riff.
So the conclusion would be : Nobody knows what Mick was going on about, and nobody likes it, neither Mick - but it's a big relief when Tumbling Dice comes on.

smile: now there's an Eternal Truth! and it sure was sounding fine this summer.

(ack: i keep writing "is" and having to change it to "was" -
it's here and then it's ... ow.)
