There certainly were a hullabulloo of booze on the ferry
from Helsinki to Stockholm where the journalists went.
Some say they might have mixed some things up.
Crucial question might be: was Ove in Helsinki?
Thing is, he is used in all kinds of contexts for commenting on the Stones.
Much of the things good Ove delivers, is stuff from this very site.

A bit late, but better later than never:

I was front row, Ronnie's side (the oldest one on the picture with the Shidoobee shirt). It was a great show, and I have seen quite a few, they all (!) played very well, no major f*** ups, they were absolutely on fire and obviously had a lot of fun on stage. Keith drunk? - Absolute rubbish! I have never seen a happier looking Charlie than in Göteborg after the final bows. He just wouldn't leave the stage! And yes, the audience around me was very, very young. I have never felt so old at a Stones show. When I arrived at the stadium early in the morning (9 o'clock!) there were already a lot of people sitting in front of the gates, most of them teenagers or young folks in their early twenties. Some of them had camped out for two nights !!!! That reminded me of the 70s. Amazing. So the atmosphere was wild and tough and I really had a hard time to defend my spot at the rail. Anyway, great show, great atmosphere, great crowd. Don't believe what the tabloids wrote.

A question to Ove and Vilhelm. I met you both on the pre party. Nice talking to you, and thanks for arranging the party. But now to my question. You both told me that you were going to meet the Stones a couple of hours before the show. How come one of you says that Keith was so drunk that he could hardly stand up, and one of you says that he was not drunk at all??? Very confusing

I´ll take a few minutes to explain, before i´m heading to Oslo:
I said Keith was NOT dead drunk wich is true. He probably had a little to drink, but he was in a very good mood, smiling, joking, and giving us all high fives as he flew around the room. Not dead drunk having to lean on Ronnie just to be able to stand up. Rubbish.
The tabloid Expressen talked to Ove, as he is a former emplpyee, and he did not say he was dead drunk, but that "fact" was made up by Expressen, and they said Ove had said it. Made a big headline out of it. I immediately asked Ove if he had said that, and he did´nt. Ove has talked to Expressen to make them correct their mistake, and we´ll just have to wait and see.
The show in Gothenburg was nothing short of excellent, but it seems the swedish press decided that this time around, it´s the Stones we´re going to sink.

A little funny fact: There is a small local paper on the eastcoast of Sweden, maybe 50.000 readers at most. Their journalists report just read: "Grading the Stones? No way, they are The Rolling Stones, and are way above that!"

There have been lots of comparisons between the Gothenburg and the Copenhagen shows. I (like many others of you out there) visited them both and have to say they put on two terrific concerts.

Mick is fantastic as always. Maybe he was working (even) harder in Gothenburg than in Copenhagen.
Charlie is always Charlie. He’s not the spectacular guy but you can’t blame him for anything, can you?
Ronnie surprised (at least me) a bit by his concentrated and blistering work at both shows. No posing at all, just playing guitar, and he did it excellent.
Keith didn’t look that focused in Gothenburg than in Copenhagen. In Copenhagen he was almost flawless; in Gothenburg he seemed to stop playing here and there in some songs. King in Copenhagen, Good in Gothenburg.

Personal opinions, I’m not a musician but I’ve seen them every European tour since 1973 and I enjoyed it this time as much as ever before.

In Copenhagen I was standing just beside the B-stage which was a fascinating experience. There you could see how much they cooperate just with eye contact. Even if the sound beside the B-stage was terrible you understand how hard it must be to play the B-stage when you hear the sound from the big stage with some “delay”.
As I saw it there were stationary monitors at the B-stage platform, are there monitors even at the mobile B-stage that are rolling?

Well, on the clip Ove said what the newspaper wrote...

Well, Dandelion: Can you post or link the clip?
Not that I doubt it, just want to see it.

No chance its edited in a way it loses its context?

Baboon, I posted the link above
[tv4nyheterna.se]
Axl79 posted it on RO.

So I really don't see how Expressen did something wrong
The interview does not seem to be edited either. Check around 2:25

Sure he puts it that way. Have heard it now.
He even said he was "överdoserad", which ought to be
translated like "OD:d".. I'm glad the tabloids didnt
hook up on that.

Perhaps the crucial question is: Has there ever been one single gig when
Keith Richards NOT have been tanked? Since-63?

But this interview aitnt for Expressen but for Tv4.
Whatever that would mean.

Still..... Nevertheless... I can NOT hear him saying such things as:
"Havent seen him like this" etc, which is quoted over and over.
What he actually is saying, is they look NOT young anymore.

Obviously it's not the same interview - but Ove does indeed say that Keith was totally drunk - or "OD'ed".
You can't expect to hear the Expressen interview on TV4, Baboon

i am confused. Vilhelm honey, pardon my bluntness, please, but
why are the gallant Vikings taking the Expressen rag to task
if Ove did in fact say that? and ... well, why did he say that? since it wasn't true

Re: Gothenburg reports and comments

I dont know when the "meet & greet" was.
The scandalous writing deals with the gig, doesnt it?
Ove talks about another episode.
I dont know what the Truth is here;
but I'm sure Ove regrets the way he actually put it.
And I just cant believe he make things up;
we talk about The supreme Stones-knower in Scandinavia.

Well I enjoyed it.

Sound was crystal clear where we were, a bit of an echo could clearly be heard during keiths set but I put that down to the bottom end of the stadium being nearly empty.

I thought Keith was looking good and happy, He did not come across as out of his head.

I got the silver was the hilight of the show for me smiling smiley

I dont read tabloids, have not bothered with them for about 15yrs.

I will say from the comments I am seeing here these guys were definately at a different show or maybe they forgot to take their ear plugs out.

I was close to the main stage on Keith's side in Gothenburg and I sure didn't notice Keith being either drunk or high or whatever.
His playing was pretty good as far as I'm concerned. In Copenhagen I was even closer to the main stage on Ronnies's side and
I think Keith looked fine and his playing was of a good enough standard to make me satisfied.
Ronnie Wood on the other hand was great at both shows with a minimum of posing and lots of focused guitar playing.
I especially think Ronnie was playing really well on Can't You Hear Me Knocking.
That song has turned out to be one of the highlights during this final leg of the tour for me anyway.

"Talks about another episode" - are you joking, Baboon ?
Meet&greet happens right before the concert...what is it...1 hour maybe?
Never had a chance to be at such a thing. Glad the Stonesvikings made it though

Erik honey ... sorry but i am really confused. could i ask you to translate the relevant part of the interview with Ove,
please and thank you very kindly? i think i can fathom the gist of the newspaper headline :[
but not much else

Re: Gothenburg reports and comments

Hi with Sssoul,

Here's a translation for you....surprised that you don't speak Swedish BTW, ;

[TV reporter holds up the paper saying "Keith was totally pissed", and then asks Ove what he thought of the show]

O: It's very hard to give a good description of the concert, because it was such an un-even event. It was overall weak. They fumbled through a lot of songs, but near the end - it got a bit better

[TV reporter asks: "you, who have been seeing so many concerts...was this one of the better one?"]

O: Not the best one of course. But one should never dismiss the Rolling Stones, because they will always rise up again and say - "hey we can still do this".

[TV-reporter asks: "You did meet them at one of them meet&greet meeting. You were one of the lucky ones. How were they?"

O: It's always just as cool to get to do one of them meet&greet. Keith was totally drunk. It shouldn't be necessary to lie about something like that, or stay quiet about it. It's clear that he was OD'd. He stumbled forward, and I got a plecter off of him - and he said "my friend my friend", and such things.
But when you see them that closely, you see that they are not 25 anymore, they are old. I mean, I am 60 - and I'm pretty 'fresh' compared to them.

THen it's over to the great story about meeting Stones in 1970, and making food for the band...

I was in 5th row on Keith's side right at the b-stage rail and I didn't notice anything either.

"[TV reporter holds up the paper saying "Keith was totally pissed", and then asks Ove what he thought of the show] "

Probably not relevant, as he is interviewed over the phone,
and cant see what she is doing.

I still claim Ove talks about Meet and greet;
but I still dont know at what time of the day that was.
