You obviously cant figure it out for yourself, she has been vilified by the press for ten bloody years and now there is another absurd inquiry happening, the boys have had all this crap to put up with, its time the memory of what good she had done was brought up again. How is your mother going these days pal.

Hello whiskey.

Look, she was a celeb - nothing more, nothing less. The whole event would not have happened if she had not been a celeb. There will not be a similar event when another royal spouse kicks the bucket. Why on Earth have we, as a nation, taken to such overblown public mourning?

This is not a private matter about mothers and sons, but our treatment of a public institution.

Well, I was kinda more interested in what everyone thought of the show - the music. Yeah, sure it was Middle Of The Road (MOR) but with that said there was still a few highlights within that stiff structure. As far as political, the Royal Family, and all that I haven't got a clue, non Brits have just always seen it as a part of the fabric, maybe some think it adds to the tourism aspect, or the uniqueness of GB, I don't know, I've been to the UK many times and just see the Royals as part of the package, don't give it any thought beyond that... If there's an internal thing going on - for vs against - I haven't even heard about it.... I'm always busy trying to talk my way into Abbey Road studios for a free 30 minute unescorted "walkabout" - LOL - CindyC did it so now I must out do her, as ALWAYS......

No - its called an opinion and like a***holes everyones got one. At least I don't have to resort to personal insults. Methinks you're the one who needs to grow up.

How on earth is "attention seeking whore of a mother is dead" not a personal insult?

We can all live with an opinion but you don't have to behave like your arsehole!

She's dead so I'm sure she won't mind. Get over it!

I take it English is not your first language? I was reporting a posting elsewhere however I agree she was attention seeking, she liked the company of men and she's dead. Pretty accurate

Bryan Ferry acted like the professional dude he is, his guitarists as ever were awesome (especially young Ollie). I didnt really care for the other acts, it did seem like one massive publicity coup for all involved though.

Not so sure about the sound on some of the acts either, felt kinda "empty"

It's easy aint it to take pot shot's at some famous person? Gain abit of attention? Put people's back's up? But all in all is just sad that there aint more in your life! Would you accept it it someone used the same language with your mother?

Whatever's been said about Diana in the past - and while i dont agree with the whole public mourning thing that went on - there is no denying she was a great mother, loved by her sons and the whole gig was done out of the love of her by her sons, which should be respected.

I couldn't stand what I saw - apart from Bryan Ferry, I turned down the volume untill I spotted Ferry

Unless you are William or Harry why do you care? I have no time for mawkish sentimentality for people I've never met or who are only famous because they married into a family of inbred Germans. If you do, then I suggest that you find something meaningful to do with your sad little life.

I can't read any more of your posts Ablett. Deciphering your semi-literate text speak is too difficult. No need to reply I shan't read it.

Erik, I'm thunderstruck that you didn't simply go wild over Duran Duran.

I can understand how Diana might have enjoyed them at the time but I believe that time is past.

Even though Rod Stewart's voice is not what it was I have always loved the reception that he gets in the UK.

Too much Elton but that's the sort of deal he likes to insist on to show up.

As for the stupid, rude and heartless comments posted in this thread, I can only assume that the love of two sons for a mother they lost too early is meaningless to such persons.

Re HelterSkelter and CindyC I believe C's tour of Abbey Road is quite difficult to top. I could probably come up with a little something for you HS but on second thoughts ya know girls just gotta have fun. I will, of course, now be working on Cindy's invitation to Keith's "beach hut."

Princess Diana did some good work but was generally of no great significance for anything other than being Princess Diana.

I do, however, accept that for non-Brits any negativity about her might seem a little odd, but really, she was intellectually lame and a doe-eyed drip. Wake up everyone, why be so keen to defend her? Of course it's a tragedy from a personal perspective, but we're talking about a public figure here. She was a royal equivalent of the Spice Girls - something most of us on this site would want to distance ourselves from.

..... I think this is the first time I feel like a total Dumb Shit on IORR but why are you guys fighting over Princess Di? I never heard of pro and con groups when it came to her.... I thought she was basically loved in the UK like JFK and Jackie in the USA.... I've never heard of this, I know Charles is not totally liked by all but Diana? Wow, learn something new everyday i guess......

What a larf,
Don't worry about it HS, but you are learning something about the English.
That use of the word tw4t was very funny indeed.... the timing was impeccable.

I still say that all the music was garbage though.

Of particular note were Status Quo.... I'm not surprised that their regular gigs are at venues in Minehead and Grimsby. Arthritic rock that wouldn't scare the pigeons on a Sunday morning in Sheffield. Just as funny were the gonks in the audience who were lapping it up......yo weekend warriors..respect.

Diana......Jim Morrison.......James Dean......

They all had enough sense to die young and remain youthful.

I won't speak about the woman; but for me it's not ok to celebrate the birthday of a beloved mother in front of millions of tv watchers...

Re: OT: Concert for Princess Di on VH1/MTV - Your Thoughts/Reviews

bluesinc., I kinda agree with you. Just a concert would have been suitable for the UK. But the worldwide TV blitz is probably what got numerous of the performers to do the show.

I thought it was quite cheesy to see an advert on NBC in the US promoting Elton's brand new album during excerpts from the concert and a re-run of Matt Lauer's weeks ago interview with William and Harry. And believe me it wouldn't have run at great expense if he hadn't wanted it.

The princes are young and they've had to endure so much crap press about their mother that one can understand their youthful decisions; they're not exactly experienced in the hustle of the entertainment industry and deal making.

Erik, I turned off the TV when Duran Duran came on, too. Still haven't watched the entire show. They reminded me of the sort of business gents one finds on commuter flights. Nothing like that paragon of grooviness, Keith Richards.

music is music good or bad - stones weren't to clever at the start of the tour (Wertcher)...
at least these folks participated on the global stage for Di,
where were the stones?...
if it aint a fenced off festival site thats never going to get aired, its a well paid half empty stadium or some other money grabbing event...

Thank you, Whiskey and Ablett, for defending Diana from the wolves who would hunt her down again if they could. I don't know what Papalaz 1's problem is, but the whole thing about Diana is that she wasn't one of the "royals" and eventually she split and had her own life and, yes, tried to make the world a little better for those less fortunate. If people loved her so, there's a reason - she was special and didn't deserve to die on the streets of Paris, chased by the paparazzi. It was all very mysterious and suspicious if you take any time to look at the facts. At any rate, she's gone - what's the harm with a day, or an hour of "primetime", of music and remembering her? Like there's so much great stuff on tv all the time! No time for "mawkish sentimentality" - just a little remembrance for a beautiful person gone too soon - whats so terrible about that??

Yup - and stuck to his own guns. When Keef was asked to play for another tribute to Diana (not this one) he answered no, 'cause he "didn't know the chick"
