i think it was somewhat a case of the european press being kind because the man hadn't been there in 12 years, logie...the '78 tour was mostly panned in the US press....scoffed at as a vegas-style lounge act (hey, that has a ring of familiarity to it, doesn't it?)....

The "admiration for Neil Diamond" comments didn't go down to well here either, and yes, I would agree that the UK press were so delighted to have him perform on these shores again after such a long spell, that he could have gotten away with anything.

Overall however, I thought the concerts (for the most part) worked brilliantly.

It's just such a travesty that the godawful Budokhan album is all we have as a souvenir. Unless that is, someone out there can get me a copy of the 2CD Earls Court Boot! Anyone??? Please!!

..hey Logie....thanks for the brilliant concert review....I saw Dylan later that same year (1978) in Charlotte NC.....great show....(and I never thought of it as a lounge act, Tod)

Nice read, Logie - the 78 Tour is one of the definate best tours by any artist. Of course some journalists and some people in the audience described it as Las Vegas style - which proves that they didn't "get it" at all - it's like calling STP 1972 for "glam style"
