The B STAGE : Would the show be better off without it?
Posted by: schillid ()

The B-stage performance has become such a spectacle ... It's always fun.

But do you think that maybe...
it would be a good idea for the Stones to go back to playing the entire show on just one stage? Maybe they'd focus more on playing ...

What year did the Stones start using the B stage in the show?

Get rid of it, I'm a FOS shortarse and can't see a thing when they are on it :-)
Oily.

1997, Bridges to Babylon, right?

I'd vote for keeping the B-stage, although I miss them playing more obscure numbers like Route 66, etc. on it.

I would like a far taller B stage.

They would have time to add at least one more song to the list.

The b-stage is the best invention ever. The crowd really get's into the show when they are on the b-stage. I hear it from every casual fan who just goes to see them ones, they all say it is the best part of the show. Ok for us who are mainly in the FOS area you don't see much but it's only for two and a half/ three songs. I wouldn't mind if they did a axtra song on there.

Cheers,
Wuudy

They started it on Voodoo but it just extended out from the main stage...

The full satellite stage was on Bridges.

Why would they get rid of it...it wastes about 10 minutes for them...if they did, then they would have to play another 2-3 songs...

nah, keep it, great for stadium crowds to get a closer look/experience. and now that they play while the b-stage moves, there's not the 10 minute break it used to be when walking out to it and back. also, always good to hear the boys slightly stripped down without all the extra people too; -just the stones and a piano.

It doesnt waste ANY time now, as this is the first tour where they play OUT to it and back again. The show doesnt stop, unlike previous tours.

Personally I think its become a little predictable. Great novelty in it's day, though. Like ONNYA, I miss some of the more obscure numbers on it.

couple things about the b-stage - just because they aren't physically on the same stage as the others, doesn't mean it's a stripped-down affair. a peak at stage setlist illustrates that indeed the auxilary players participate during the b-stage songs.

as others have alluded - the allure of the b-stage at its inception was not just the presentational/visual aspect - but rather that it was here that we got to hear some real deep cuts and rarities - Crazy Mama, Little Queenie, 19NB, The Last Time. Starting with the Licks tour, the b-stage was "raped" (as a buddy of my coined it) and we began getting warhorses on the b-stage. WARHORSES ON THE B-STAGE???? SAY IT AIN'T SO!

I would rather see no b-stage than a raped one.

(actually the a-stage has been getting raped alot too....)

No question, no discussion.

Theater In The Round, maybe?

I recall seeing some film of the Beatles playing "in the round" It might have been Miami or Washington(?) Funniest thing I remember was Ringo, turning his own drum kit by himself every few songs.(!) Can you imagine that nowadays?

....keep the friggin' B stage.....it's symbolic of the Stones bringing their music to the little people.....not you OilyDipstick....I mean the people who don't pay the offensively high ticket prices to be up close, the not so wealthy fans.......and it's a gimmick that sets them apart from other acts....B stage, good...

Actually, I hear the members of his All-Starr band make him carry their amps. Poor Ringo, he never gets any respect!

The B-stage is great! Love it. When the floor is all seating, and you move from your seat and run round to the b stage barrier after keiths set, and there they are, coming towards you, getting closer and closer... And just to see them that close, and when you hear those monster chords to HTW ot SMU, and keiths right there in front of you. The atmosphere is incredible...

It'll never happen. Jagger doesnt like it and has said he doesnt feel comfprtable with it. Getting him to do 3 songs in that setting is as good as you'll get.

True - that was only three. However, he has gone on record as saying he doesnt feel comfortable and wouldnt like to do a full length show like that

My thoughts exactly. They can play anything out there but now choose to play it safe. I said on another thread lack of imagination has killed the B-stage.

i've had some extremely high-quality b-stage experiences - keep it, definitely!

well, there's a diff between rape and murder, i think. also - the b-stage sucked last year in oakland even with the inclusion of imagination - so.....

Agree with the NO WARHORSES ON B-STAGE thing. As this stage always reminds me of the 60's (much smaller stages) I would go even further and suggest they'd do only real vintage material there - like the ones you mentioned (Queenie, 19NB, Last Time), also Little Red Rooster or other stuff like Route 66, Around And Around, Confessin' The Blues, Down The Road Apiece - you get the idea. If I were them I would use the B-stage as a "time-capsule" back to the 60's, back to the roots.

yup. i actually do think that was the INTENDED purpose at the inception in '97. I said it then and I'll say it again - LQ on the b-stage was the best live song the stones have done in the modern era. IT KILLLED.

A b-stage is somewhere where you dont need 'warhorses' to keep the momentum going.

That gimmick creates enough excitement as it is already, They could play the theme from "Laurel and Hardy" and the crowd around it would still go apeshit.

i like the B stages from the past tours but not ABB. The moving stage elevates so high as it moves so if you're close to it, you can't see them well.

Also, back when they used to walk to the B stage, you can shake their hands on the way there (and in some cases) on the way back!
