At the Twickenham shows in 2006 I had the best experience when I was able to leave my first row seat in A1 on both nights and move quite close to the b-stage to get amazing versions of e.g Start Me Up and Rough Justice and then return to my seat when the stage started moving back. If you've once been that close to the band and felt the energy, the heat from the screaming crowd you'll realize you want to do it again and again. Unfortunately you can't get close to the b-stage from the FOS section, it's only possible at seated shows. Anyway, keep the b-stage I'd say.

keep the "B".

In the Biggest Bang dvd documetary...(re: Rio Show) Mick wished
he could continue down the beach from "B-stage" to "B-stage" to "B-stage"...

Altenative: a floating stage? winking smiley nah...wouldn't want charlie to get scared
like he did in the blimp.

IORR............but I like it!

Burn the B-Stage. I don't see the point of the boys moving away from me while I'm front of stage.

The B-stage is great . I've been to 2 shows where I was on the floor but about half way back So when the time came for the B-stage it was my chance to see them up close . The security was pretty cool @ Gillete Stadium and Hershey . PA and they let us move around somewhat freely .

They had some kind of B-stage or cherry picker for some time now , the fans expect it

Gone on record? Was it a 'b' side?

i like the b stage but not the moving b stage. Forgive me, but thats a bit much. I liked on the other tours when they walked back and fourth, that was exciting, this moving stage is too gimmicky.

I think the whole thing has become too gimmiicky and should be replaced by an acoustic set.

The moving B-Stage is brilliant. For the casual fans, it creates a "buzz" in the upper level seating, leaving everyone thinking that they saw a great show.

I actually think that a high B-Stage would be great. It could be elevated maybe 5 meters above the floor audience. They would be floating above the crowd -- very godlike.

Or a circular track that moves around the perimeter of the stadium would be very cool. They could play 3 songs on it, and it would go round and round -- kind of like the "wave".

Was this a 'stones' idea or was it copied i am sure that the bbc documentry 'seven ages of rock' stated U2 was the first group to do this?

well but ... how would people nearby see them? which seems like a very major part of the point.

they certainly did it before the Stones did. It was a feature of the Zoo TV tour in 1992-93 and Popmart in 1997. The Stones only really did it on Voodoo Lounge as a one off for the PPV special and it wasnt part of their stage show until BTB kicked off in September 1997.

I have read it posted previously on this board that Bryan Adams of all people did it before U2 however.

I think they should keep the B-Stage (for the fos crowd), but have a video system to keep an image on the main screen !!

"Or a circular track that moves around the perimeter of the stadium would be very cool."

(They could play Around & Around on it... but imagine the sound problems! The present B-stage is complicated enough.)

The B-stage is great fun and lets those of us who are not rich enough to be FOS get a better look at the band. Also, it looks to me as if the band themselves enjoy it. Keep it - but I agree with the "time-capsule" idea. Nothing after 1970.

b stage a great idea...simulates the club stage dimensions in a way...and sure the burdensomely huge supporting cast is still performing from somewhere, but that don't bug me because a) u can't see 'em...except for bass and piano and that's unavoidable...and b) what makes it work for me is their close proximity to one another...i think that affects the intensity of the performance...(it even did so on superbowl with that big stage, but with the supporting cast members being hidden away)...

i like 'em close together; think it affects the music very positively...
sure i'd prefer 'around and around' and gems like that but look how effin great the 'live licks' war horse versions were (from b stage '03 hbo msg...) 'iorr especially imo.
i do prefer the original broadcast sound mix better than the album re-mix personally however, but that's a small nit to pick...

The B-stage is a tribute, if not to Brian, than at least to the Brian era. Seeing them on a small stage, standing in close proximity to one another, brings to mind memories of seeing them on the small televsion studio sound stages on which they made their appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and other 1960s TV programs. Accordingly, they should play their hits, their 60s hits; Satisfaction, GOMC, NNB, PIB, HYSYMBSITS, LSTNT ....

If they got rid of the B Stage, what would these people who stear it put on their resume?

The band obviously feel it's an important feature of the show.
...especially given that they put up the with the not inconsiderable technical problems which it poses.
They've had a lot of monitor problems on the B stage over the years...which are often the root of screw ups made in that part of the set.

Thanks for the excellent photos.
Even if I do not see a lot when I am front of the big stage I think it's a very good idea to cover a kind of theatre/club atmosphere.
And they do not loose any time now. The show is just shorter as they don't run walk back and forward.

Sjouke,

I was also standing near B-stage (ronnies side), great experience.
I say DEFINTELY keep the B-stage intact.

P.S. could you sent me some pics by mail?

It provides 15 minutes of intimacy for the people with bad seats. If you're in the upper level of a stadium, than for those 15 minutes, it's more like you're in the upper level at an arena. If you're in the upper level of an arena, than for those 15 minutes it's like you're in the balcony of a large theatre. And if you're right near the B-stage, it's 15 minutes of magic.
