Ticket prices are just too high!!! I hope they play to empty stadiums
Posted by: James Kirk ()
Date: June 1, 2007 04:19

I know I'm wasting my breath (It's clear that the Stones don't care about the fans at this point) but I can only speak for myself.

I will be in Europe several weeks this summer, but will not be buying tickets just on principle. As a matter of fact I hope they play to empty stadiums this time around.

Nothing says rock and Roll better than a $400 ticket (or whatever the equivalent is these days)

If the Stones cared about playing to packed houses they would price their tickets reasonably.

The Stones need to get back to the basics in the studio + on stage if they want to be taken seriously going forward.

what does that tell you, it tells me they care more about the money than playing in front of half empty stadiums at this point

But Captain....their giving you all they got! May they live long and prosper....even more.

What utter bullshit. Quit whining and get your butt to the show.

Some day you will look back and wish you could pay ANY amount to the Rolling Stones.

yeah, their prices are high, but they're legendary and still put on a damn good show with very high production costs.

It's only rock and roll, but I like it. (even if it gets expensive...)

I don't earn much these days but I always manage to see at least one show per tour.
Had an oppertunity to go see Hendrix at the Isle of Wight festival, went camping with my mates instead,we all know now why that was an error of judgement,
So get yourself down to at least one show after all its not compulsory to attend all of them, just enjoy what you can while you still have the chance

You are playing to an empty stadium.

I don't disagree with your main thesis, Captain Kirk: the Stones cost a lot of money.

... Yo, say something a little more interesting, and maybe 5 million people will pay more than an average of $0 to read this thread of yours.

Yes, the ticket price are high. We have discussed that a couple of times.
The prices have increased quickly the last years. The industry seems to test the limits. (Why give money away?) When the ticket selling reduce the prices supposedly reduce as well.

Visiting one or two Stones-shows a tour it’s okay with me to pay the Stones-prices. I rather see the Stones than anything else, despite that I’ve seen them several times through the years. And I realize that carrying all the crew and equipment between different venues costs a bit more than, let’ say, Dylan’s.

But what the hell do you say about Barbara Streisand’s absurd ticket prices?

"They arent going play to empty stadiums. All is more ore less sold out."

Germany, Belgium and Holland are not sold-out - far from it....

It's just simple economics...and in this world you can't do much about it.
I can only afford one show per tour [2 maximum] and maybe shows would sell those few extra tickets if the prices were lower...but essentially they charge what the market dictates and what it will stand.
Rolling Stones tickets cost more than tickets for most other acts simply because they're the Rolling Stones.
I don't expect my car dealer to sell me a Lambourghini for the price of a Ford Fiesta ;^)

I think most people realise these days that they have to pay high prices to see well known acts, after all the cost of getting recorded music is far cheaper now than it ever was .
So bands will charge a higher price to make some money look at all the record shops that have closed.
You can download or buy copies of everything nowadays ,but you can't beat GOING to a LIVE ROLLING STONES EVENT.

"but I can only speak for myself."

Funny, because hoping for empty stadium means that you're trying to speak for many many others...

James Kirk, everybody knows that prices are too high and noone from us is happy for it, of course. Prices are too high, you're too malicious. I don't know what is worse...

There is not much hope for you. Thirteen gigs are already near sold out or sold out. For the most of the rest gigs, sales seem to be closer to "OK" than to "bad". The very slow selling cases can be counted on the fingers. As for Festival Sites, like Werchter or Nijmegen, mr Cohl can easily fabricate the venues in order that they'll seem packed, even with 35,000 people only. In 1998 sold out at Werchter was meaning 47,500 people, not 75,000. Also, in the very few cases like Frankfurt, where sales were really slow, they can reduce the capacity, so you cannot see "empty stadium".

And, don't forget, by these high prices the Stones have sold 3,700,000 tickets so far on this tour.

Noone justifies the prices but i hope that noone does share your bitterness, too...

Has someone ever asked Mick or Keith about the reason for the very high ticket prices, or is it too "delicate"? Frank Zappa was right on the spot already in the sixties with "We´re only in it for the money".

Mick was asked by Q magazine in the UK, 2005. He said "It's a market price - like fish".

Well you'd better not tune in to this website once the tour starts then, because I wouldn't rate the chances of your hopes being realised too highly !

Wow, that was a wonderful comparison. In that case they really can reduce the ticket price in Sweden, the fish prices are quite modest here. Of course depending a little on what kind of fish Mr Jagger was referring to...

they do put on a good show still i agree. but lets not kid ourselves that this is the same band of the late 60's / early 70's

musically it couldn't be more different, its completely sterile now. people only go out of habit, they don't go to feel the music surely ?

how many times does anyone need to sit/stand in a stadium and watch a pretty stage but with no real musical element to the show ?

what happened to the groove ?

They are too high!

In Frankfurt they did a trick. The stage now is on the long stadium side so half of the stadium is now in the back of the stage.
But as you can see all parts (but the two front stage besides the aile) are green and available.

For all German show you still get tickets in ALL sections. Very poor sales. Even in the small Düsseldorf arena you can have nearly any seats.

And, they reduced prices down to 60Euro and also those 190Euro you can have for 145Euro. I guess that says all.
