Dylan´s Self Portrait is another gem. The memorable, great songs are all over the place.

I think Bob played his "fans" a trick with that album, Blue Moon, THe Boxer, Copper Kettle...not what people would expect - it's all in great fun and irony, I love that album too...but "important Dylan album"?...No, lol

Self-Portrait, Dylan (SP out-takes), Dylan/Dead, Down In the Groove, Under the Red Sky, Knocked Out Loaded - all pretty mediocre IMO. And, I'm a Dylan fan. The first two can be attributed to his problems with Columbia, but in the 80s the Bobster was in a real slump.

Metal Machine Music is one of the BEST albums of all time!

Yep, the big surprise in that era of mediocre albums was Oh Mercy which is one of his best in my opinion.

From an audiophile standpoint, Tonight was a great sounding album, but it's a bit unambitious. Never Let Me Down is worse.

Funny thing is that most of them are top acts, so it aint really suprise me.

Coda came out in 1982, two years after the group has disbanded. Jimmy Page took the bits and pieces from mainly the sessions from In through the out door + some other unreleased tracks and put it out. I think it´s good.

I've always liked Self-Portrait. Copper Kettle is a big favourite of mine, although there was a fair amount of 'myth debunking' at work on that record. Theres some beautiful music on it too, however.

'Dylan' is actually often described as a collection of Self Portrait leftovers, due to the fact that its all covers. Its actually almost all warm-ups for New Morning, in fact.

Knocked out Loaded is a dogs dinner and not a very nice one, but it is still worth getting solely for 'Brownsville Girl'. 'Under the red sky' to me is half-good, half throwaway. Theres a few very nice songs on it, especially the title song and Born In Time.

I must be one of the few who likes Down In the Groove.

Fresh and Unpretentious. Voice good. And an extremeley different album.

My fave version of Let's Stick Together. Jordan's drums. Oh, and the track featuring two former pistols is just a riot. Ugliest Girl is daft fun. 90 Miles an Hour. From the heart, like much of his Christian stuff.

It doesn't try to be anything special - unlike the previous two albums, which are far less memorable and not a little pretentious.

Shot Down Loaded (great title) is his worst imo. Empire Burlesque - just the cover - ughh, Mr Friendly Approachable Affable Dylan?! I don't know, DITG just seems more honest and open.

Interesting thought - if DITG had never been released in '88 - but was now released as a special selection of 80s out-takes (which it basically was) - Dylan fans would be going nuts about it!

Oh Mercy had a short shelf life for me - cos so dependent on Lanois production. Obviously better songs - but now hard to listen to that echoey sound.

LOL, but I beg to differ,
all Dylan's "bootleg-series" and albums released long after they were recorded (Basement Tapes) have been really really brilliant, and the people who collected bootlegs knew that the material was a goldmine allready.

No way does Down in the Groove come near top of the worst albums. Several good songs already mentioned on this thread certainly verify this.With the exception of his first two solo efforts Paul McCartney could have numerous albums in contention for this spot?

I like Face Dances, it gets regular rotation in my playlist, but its not worse than Its Hard (which is still a decent album, though not by the Who's Standards). I look at these lists as: lets take a shot at the popular acts in music.

I can't believe "Cut the Crap" even made the poll. It must have sold 50 copires. It is not a Clash album, it is semi- Clash at best. Hell, I am a huge Clash fan and never heard it aside from a Mick Jones-less Clash show I went to seee. It got no promotion and no airplay.

Why not add "in thru the out door". When was the last time you didn't change the radio station when a song from that album was played on your local classic rock station.

There are far worse albums by awesome artists I thnk (Clapton, Winwood). And I think Rod Stewart must have made worse albums than Camaflage but who can bear to listen.

The new Jonny Lang is quite awful. You forget that he was once a great guitarist. It's not a guitar driven project just a bunch of bland songs with him singing.

YOU'RE RIGHT!!! I cannot understand how a majority of RS readers can classify that Van Morrison album as bad. Of course not everybody will like it (as any other great album) but in my opinion it ranks among Van's best albums (and I own each and every one of them so I am really an expert). Van never sounded more 'Celtic' than on that album, one of his most distinctive ones. The RS poll seems somehow manipulated. If they would have chosen INARTICULATE SPEECH OF THE HEART I would understand better (though I think it's good but not great & I like it).

Van Morrison played songs from BEAUTIFUL VISION for years and years, not only Vanlose stairway but also Northern muse (solid ground) or Cleaning windows. But I believe that the digital remastering which improved INTO THE MUSIC so much rather worsened the sound on BEAUTIFUL VISION. During Cleaning windows I hear a disturbing sound which is actually marring the song.

I see Van Morrisons Beautiful Vision is up there. That ablum has The song "Cleaning Windows" which I really like. I bought that CD, the rest of it didn't really do much for me but I fail to see how this is one of the Worst Ablums ever. This list is BS. It seems to me to be a list of albums from artists who have done better, but are still OK. Thers much worse stuff out there.

Regardless of what you think of ELP, this has to be one of the worst albums that´s ever been released. It´s so bad that it´s hilariuos. A good listen if you need a laugh.

It stinks really heavy.

was lousy and introvert jazz rock & fusion.. Then came punk rock
