Great lyrics in that one! "People tell me you were a vulture say you're a sore in a cancer culture" WHAT'S YOU'RE FAV LINE?

i agree, that the 3 ballads on this album are very good and underrated.

the album also contains a few other underrated gems "short and curlies" and "luxury"

and a couple of overrated songs "if you cant rock me" and "its only rock and roll"

great album all the same, even though its production was poor.

There's a very special feel to the 1973-1976 albums of the Stones, especially the ballads are special, they have a decadent, hazy, laidback and charming feel, I really like that mood. "Tops" is in the same style, and it makes sense, as it was recorded in December 1972. I don't see any reason for comparing the ballads from those 4 years with the songs on Exile - which was more back to the roots....country, soul, blues and R&R - as they were heading in a different direction in the mid 70s...maybe the "from jet-plane-down-to earth-direction"

Great atmospheric Stones performance with MJ captured in top form.

Short and Curlies - OUCH! Not a shining moment. Gotta be right up there with Gomper.

I don't like "Short and Curlies" either. One of the very very few Stonestunes I outright do not like.

A rare gem, leaking out of the experimention from the GHS sessions. My guess is that Mick knew this one was too good to just toss away, so he built a production number a la YCAGYW. The vocals are finely crafted. There's no b-sided shadowy dicey stuff here.

That's a very good point Erik. I just recently bought It's Only Rock & Roll on CD. I was rather pleasantly surprised at how good it was overall. I love If you really...Again your right. a lot of good ballads of this period. Has this song ever been done live?

Sweet&Charmed, no, it hasn't been done live. I'll bet they would have played more songs from the IORR album on their 75 tour, if it wasn't for Taylor's departure. If not IfYouReallyWant.., then at least Time Waits For No One

Interesting that a few people here wrote how good TWFNO, Till Next Goodbye & If You Really Want To Be My friend are. These are the three that Mick Taylor says he co-wrote.

S*C is a disgrace unworthy of anything but a talentless bar band. Pure filler. All that material, and they slapped that POS onl

The Stones have several habits or quirks when sequencing an album. There are "Short and Curlies", "All the way Down", "Baby break it down", "Too Tight", "She;s so Cold", "No Use in Crying", "Break the Spell, "Miss Amanda Jones","Had It With You", "Factory Girl". These kind of short little numbers, that are not the big hits, and don't detract from the big closing number.

This discovery actually intrigues me. Ten albums I can think of with this short ditty that treads water while the worker bees are busy setting up for the big closing production number.
Short and Curlies----Fingerprint File
All the Way Down-----It Must Be Hell
Baby Break it Down---Thru and Thru
Too Tight------------Thief In The Night/Thief In The Night
She's So Cold--------All About You
No Use In Crying-----Waiting on a Friend
Break The Spell------Slipping Away
Miss Amanda Jones----Something Happened To Me Yesterday
Had It With You------Sleep
Factory Girl---------Salt Of The Earth

Short & Curlies isn't that bad...Just kind of a quick little ditty, like Rip This Joint or Turd on The Run.

yeah, how long is "Short & Curlies," like 2 minutes? it's a dumb song, but it's easier to get through than the snoozefest "Time Waits for No One."
