This tune is not very popular with the Stoners. I don't understand why. It has always been one of my favorite Jagger songs that he vocalizes on. Matter of fact I think of this oen together with "Let it Loose"; as those mega ballads in the 70's where Jagger really went to town.
The ending part, the trading off with Blue Magic is great. Taylor plays one of his solos. keith adds high harmonies; it has a beautiful bridge. Nicky on the piano. Can't beat it.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

I agree with everything Chelsea said. Great song.

Good call. I also think 'til the next goodbye' and 'Time waits for no one' are pretty good slow rollers. Again somewhat forgotten about.

Good song, very nice VIBRATO break in the middle. Could have used a little editing, goes on a bit too long.

Love the song. Always felt that the Stones were a vastly underrated ballad-wise. The mid-70's stuff quoted here is awesome.

Time Waits..... is one of my top tunes from that era

nice song musicianship wise, the drumming by charlie is once again superb...as is his subtle drumming in TWFNO...its quite murky in the mix (IORR is horrible for that) but he does some great jazzy stuff

One element, other than the vibrato, that helped define this and many other songs from this era is that the keyboard player, be it Stu, Nicky or Billy, was involved in the creation and composition of the song. The keyboards were woven into the fabric and became an integral part of the song along with the guitars and rhythm.

With Mick or Keith creating most of the songs on their own now, it seems that they decide if a song will have a keyboard part and then it is just dubbed in somewhere, similar to horns. On Mick's power ballads from Bigger Bang, he seems to just layer in more of his own backing vocal tracks.

I think that's an excellent observation crackin. Seems like something that's been lost in the Stones' studio output since BnB. A lot of the Golden Era material seems almost centered around the keyboards.

This is one of the few songs of their's I could raffle. Real filler to my ears.

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

The line Keith sings is "And I really want to understand you baby". That might be the only line Keith sings in the whole song. But I was listening in headphones and in the second bridge when it goes "People tell me you were a vulture" I used to think it was jagger double tracked. But I think it is Keith with him. In the first words of that phrase it sound slike him. And I also think he is singign with Blue Magic on the repeating lines "Hound ya.."

Nicky is so good on piano. The Bass comes in on the second line. It really sounds like Taylor on Bass; those precise notes on higher register.
Whoever is playing the acoustic guitar is hitting it hard; good way.

The same with many IORR numbers: what works in Exile does not work here. I don't know exactly the reason why. All the elements are there, technically even awesome, but something is missing. The spark? Energy? Direction? "Let It Loose" just blows me every time I hear it, but this number leaves me cold.

I think what is missing Doxa is the grit, the horns too, and the gypsy atmosphere. No matter how good a song IYRWTBMF is (and it IS a great one to me!) and no matter how hard Jagger sings, the sesswions are form Munich. In a vacuum cleaned studio; they were all wearing sweaters in the photos; these were clean sessions compared to the circus of Exile. There also seems to be a huge amount of compression on the IORR album.
