My 2nd Stones show?

November 8, 1969, LA Forum, first show.

Supporting acts were Terry Reid, BB King, Ike and Tina Turner Revue. By the time the Stones took the stage, we had already had an incredible show!

There was so much anticipation and excitement leading up to this show, their first in LA in more than 3 years (the one in '66 was my first Stones show). From the time they walked out onto the stage to the final note, they were . . . well, the best. They had grown as musicians and as performers in the intervening years since their last LA show. The setlist was much the same as "Ya Ya's". We had great seats too. I had spent all night in line at the Forum when the tickets went on sale, actually the 6th in line at one of the several ticket windows. By the time the sun came up, the line wrapped all the way around the Forum and beyond. I bought 16 tickets! I have a boot of that show, and though the quality is not too good, it brings back some great memories. The only downer of the night is that when we got back to the car after the show, someone had broken in and had stolen my girlfriend's stereo system ( 4-track tape) and my leather fringe jacket!!

My second Stones concert was at the West Palm Beach Internation Pop Festival on Thanksgiving weekend in 1969...the Stones were scheduled to close the festival at 9:00 on Sunday night but their plane was nine hours late leaving NYC...they came on at 4:30a.m. on Monday morning...hardly anybody was left by then!smiling smiley

June 1978

Some Girls Tour

Greensboro, NC

Opening Act: Etta James

I've seen the Stones nine times, and this show is probably at the bottom of the list. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Stones fanatic, and a mediocre Stones show still beat the heck out of a fabulous set by, say, Humble Pie. It was just sort of a blah night....no encore, several tunes seemed like Mick was just running around with a guitar while the band jammed on two chords.

BEST shows
1989 Steel Wheels (Birmingham, AL)
1975 Tour of the Americas (Greensboro, NC)

September 23, 1994 - Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia

One of my lasting memories is saying out in the parking lot to my one friend that I would trade Honky Tonk Women or Brown Sugar for something like Stray Cat Blues or Heartbreaker. As we all know Heartbreaker made it's return for the first time since 1975 that night. Interestingly enough, no matter how hard I tried, that never worked again.

I'll have to listen to it agin and give you some quotes southbound. But it is a good quality sounboard recording and Mick sound a little wasted. One I remember. Since it's the second of two shows,Mick says something about was anyone here yesterday? You got two for the price of one right?

Anaheim, July 23, 1978.
Not the "Gimme your shoes" show. This was the first day.
Mick in the red pants.
Opening bands were Etta James, Peter Tosh, the Outlaws.
Van Halen were supposed to open (that's what they said back then),
but they couldn't make it.
Really hot that day. I don't remember if they served beer,
(I don't remember seeing any), but I do remember the Coca-Cola stand
doing really good business.
At the time I thought it was a spotty show, but looking back,
I think it was terrific. The boot is better than you think.
Off the top of my head:
Mick's yellow jacket (bought at a place called Ian's Boutique.
Where? Anyone know?)
Keith's green and yellow Addidas tennis shoes.
Mick climbing the scaffold, the water hose.
Long intro to HTW and Tumbling Dice.
Last tour with Ampeg amps, too.

Hi,

Er,it was at the SECC in September 2003-the first of their 2 night stand there.

Crowd were berserk at times, and excellently disrespectful of soon-to-be Sir Mick!

All-in-all a great night's entertainment!

Cheers,

Si.

That was my second show : )

I flew back to AL from an extended life adventure in Manhattan specifically for that show. 11th row center and yes, it was incredible.

More Mick comments from Candelstick 1981 "Did you know the Beatles played thier last show here? A minor bit of useless fuc#ing information for you"....Mick sounds a little buzzed.

Mick had a way of speaking to the audience on the '78 and '81 tours that changed in later tours. Probably drugs like weed and coke made the comments seem a little funny from those tours.

1966. Hollywood Bowl. I think that the Buffalo Springfield opened up for them. Great show, I remember as we were walking out at the end of the show, some square cat asked his girlfriend, if it was Nick or Mick Jagger. They were even better at the Bowl in 2005.

My 2nd was the #2 gig in Anaheim, but those show's seem to blend together, for me anyway. My 2nd tour was LA Coliseum,Still Life, and that was pretty crazy, with the Prince episode and all that and all the Drugs,Qauludes and Humboldt Bud. I also remember mick saying o Thank's what's this a bag of acid, cocaine, pot, mushrooms etc... So it sounds like he was doing this in mutiple cities, not good. I remember David Lee Roth doing this in 81 with Van Halen,Saying O yea baby this is the real thing this aint Quiet Riot at LA and then again in san Diego, about Jack Daniels.

Raliegh North Carolina
Carter Finley Sept 1994 (also the site of my first in 89)

Kravtis opened, I believe Nicky Hopkins died one day earlier, and the next night they played live on MTV Awards. Great night, 6th row.

North Carolina is always fun. There are some hardcore fans there and the crowd is always interesting. A mix of bikers, hippes and college kids who still think its 1972. Sometimes it was a little shaky

1st Leicester 1976
2nd Roundhay Park, Leeds 1982

Huge crowd - George Thorogood, Joe Jackson, J Geils supporting
They sounded loud and great near the front - not too sure about half a mile further back...

My second show was my second Stones show ever. It was at the MGM

Elvis was...Im having brain fade...I think 69 or 70. I've told the story before, I was not an Elvis fan when I was 19. They had to drag me to the show...It was at the Hilton aka old International I think it was called.

He knocked my socks off. Can't compare to the Stones, because so different...he just had this amazing charisma, thats indescribable
