What was your favourite show ?
Do you remember the 1965 - 1978 concerts? Could you share some stories, please ?

Eric, Until '69 there wasn't that much to the concerts besides the thrill of actually seeing the Stones in person. They played about 40 min. in '65 and '66 and the sound wasn't very good although you could hear them. In '72 they were at a big concrete arena with the sound reverberating all over the place. In '69 'though they had a big PA and the sound was great. We didn't have tickets for the 2nd show and ran past the guards to get in. They chased us but couldn't leave their posts so they gave up. The entrance we went through to the hall brought us right up against the stage just as they were coming on and the crowd rushed toward the stage so we stayed there for the whole show, right in front of Keith! Theres a pic of us in a shot from behind the band in one of the Stones books. In '72 some friends called and said they were going to the hotel and picked me up. Soon after, we were on an elevator, it stopped and Mick was standing there all by himself! He got on with the four of us. He seemed very happy and friendly. He looked at the buttons and said it was like a pinball machine. Barb said "push them all" and he laughed. Later we saw Keith eating in a 2 person booth wih another guy. He was not talking to his friend. No sane person would have approached him. It was like there was a plexiglass box inclosing him, very strange, how a person can give off such strong "keep away" vibes while merely eating. I think he has mellowed a lot since then. In '78 they played the 3,000 seat Opera House in St. Louis. Somehow we got in. they were incredably sloppy, Keith fell down. We had tickets to the Boulder show a few days later. There were 60,000 people. It was the best concert I ever saw! They opened with a long, jaming version of Let It Rock, did a few classics and then did every song on Some Girls except Lies. Mick played electric piano on Far Away Eyes. It had been raining all through Kansas' set but stopped when the Stones came on. During one jam Mick started climing the PA scaffolding which was still wet. He got up about 20 or 30 feet and started swiging by one hand! It was scarry. Then they closed with a 5 or 6 classics. They sounded fantastic, really energized. Keith and Ronnie were really weaving great leads together that day. I think thy're still great but that was the highlight for me.

We only did Stuttgart because we were traveling through Europe with the family and we couldn't make the schedule work to allow us one more show. We were scheduled to see them in Spain, but we changed our plans, which I'm glad we did because that show got cancelled and that would have been a drag.
