I really like my job. I work for the State of Washington at UWMC in Seattle. After five years of torture at Boise Cascade Office Products I quit and promised myself I would never put up w/mind f*cking at a job again. I've walked out of two jobs since then, just got up and walked. Never regretted it. When it's time, it's time.

Question:

It seems like in America, many jobs want you to take a drug test before they hire you, is this happening in other parts of the world?

I'm curious too

Here's a funny thought. I sold my business in 2002 and entered into a 4 year non-compete agreement which has since expired. But for four years I was paid nicely each month NOT TO WORK......is that great or what?

Not where I live, unless you want to be a policeman, ambulance driver or such,
and of course if you're going for a job within the army.

Sounds excellent, I'd like such an agreement myself.

....so I work for myself now. I'm thinking about giving myself a random drug test later this week.......see how well I do....maybe give myself a second chance if i fail miserably.

Lukester, your drug test sounds kinda like the security search at a redneck bar we used to frequent - at the door they check you for a gun, if you haven't got one they'll give you one.

My unresearched hypothesis on Enron & SOX:

From a macroeconomical perspective, it would have been more productive for the US Govt to have re-funded the pensions of all of the employees who lost theirs because the the criminally fraudulent manner in which the company was managed, than creating all of the beaurocracies related to SOX compliance.

Investing in accountants is not what drives innovation and economic growth. Investing in R&D and new product development does. Companies are forced to invest in accountants, forgoing the opportunity to invest in new products & technologies.

I'm sure that the Big 4 had extremely fat lobbying budgets during the drafting of that bill on The Hill.

I feel like Will Farrel's character in Old School after his debate with James Carville. I think I passed out.

A new poll says only 12% of poll givers ask questions to 25% of minority poll takers in a 75% unbiased manner.

Some questions here:

Lukester what do you do now you work for your own?

Tussler, howcome you have so many vacation days?

And, how many vacation days do you guys in the states have? I work in Holland and i have 25 days in a year. If you work for the goverment here you get almost double!!!

Cheers,
Wuudy

I travel 1600 km north from where I living, work 163,5 hour in 14 days and then I go home for 3 weeks. So I actually work, in hour, as normal people do.
