Talking of funny names - it always make me laugh to read that Mick said he had to rescue Jerry Hall from marrying Bryan Ferry otherwise she'd have been known as Jerry Ferry.

I may have got this wrong but I read an item the other day that inferred that Linda Keith's dad was one Alan Keith. He was a BBC Radio 2 (formerly Light programme)broadcaster and had a career lasting over 60 years. He died in 2003 aged 94 and was still doing broadcasts which made him probably the oldest regular broadcaster at the time.
His brother was one David Kossaf- who did quite a lot of TV and was also well known as the father of Paul Kossaf - remember FREE?
Presumably Alan changed his name for career purposes.

I've always thought that his break-up with Linda Keith is what led him to eventually become the person/persona he is famous for. If what I have read is true, it was quite heart-breaking, and he went from being somewhat naive and innocent (please note I said SOMEWHAT) to being determined to never let such a strong, emotionally painful experience happen to him again. In doing this, he pretty much became an ass-hole. A nice guy on the surface, and maybe still that way deep down inside, but in the layer between the two, a self-serving prick whose only concern was feeding his self-destructive needs.

hi,
As you may have noticed, I'm interested in Linda Keith and her relationships with Keith, Hendrix, and to a lesser degree Brian Jones.
So I'm sharing the following with you-all, adding to this Linda Keith thread for anyone interested in her -- as well as interest in a slice of Brian's 1968 life, and insight into his fraught relationships.
NOTE: the descriptive language is not mine; it's from the Christie's 2007 online catalog.
-------
1. "A rare, emotional hand-written letter from Brian Jones to Linda Keith, circa 1968, the one-page letter written in red ballpoint pen beginning Darling Linda, Thank you for the lovely dinner last night + the groovy sandwich this morning..., the letter continues with Jones pleading with Keith Please please don't freak out in your way - it hurts me so inside (!) You must, must know I love you so much, that all I see before me is orientated toward you - my darling, my beautiful girl... the letter ends with Jones asking Don't give me a hard time + I promise not to get silly on beer or what have you. I LOVE YOU, signed Brian, 1p."

2. "A rare emotional hand-written letter from Brian Jones to Linda Keith circa 1968, the letter written in blue ballpoint pen on one side of a sheet of stationery, the letter beginning Dearest Linda, I'm so sorry that such a tragic thing seems to have severed our relationship... and continues ...Let me please say darling that I'm deeply aware of your problems. Please do everything you can to sort out everything. I'm sure you can shake off the devils that taunt you. That you could so often forget your troubles to help me so lovingly fills me with such deep emotion. I longed to help you Linda, really I did, but a kind of self-preservation instinct erected a barrier every time the longing to help arose in me. This produced the conflicts inside me which resulted in violence, insults and other hurts I caused you..., unsigned, 1p."

3. "A rare, emotional hand-written letter from Brian Jones to Linda Keith, circa 1968, the letter written in blue ballpoint pen on two sides of a piece of stationery beginning Dearest Darling Linda, I'm presently very smashed..., Jones goes on to suggest I have to tell you, we (Ossie Clark and I) were talking about people who should do the Eamon Andrews show and after suggesting a few really groovy people to @#$%& Eamon's head up, Ossie suggested "How about Linda Keith to really floor him" Wow! How people dig you..., Jones continues with telling Keith about his plans for the future I'm getting two houses together Linda, a good scene, one in town + one in the country - please be with me, I'm so lonely by myself. I need you so badly + I love you so much, please understand what @#$%& us up before, a terrible combination of events, Jones ends the letter with a proposal of marriage: Please let's start again. PLEASE MARRY ME. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. All My love, Brian"

If you believe in the karmic wheel, you could imagine that one of the reasons Keith got so strung out on smack was because he had blown the whistle on Linda Keith for the very same thing.
When you take on someone else's drug problems with fierce indignation as Keith obviously did you'd better beware of what going on in your own house or whats about to. peace
