There is a catalyst in every meeting, every connection - Linda happened to be the intermediary that introduced Jimi to those people who were to be instrumental to his career. Whether or not Jimi would have been discovered otherwise was never up for debate. As it happened, and is fact, Linda Keith helped Jimi. Jimi's talent obviously would have provided for his discovery had Linda not intervened, but historically, she did. Perhaps I don't understand the point that you are trying to make.

Are you talking about "Send My Love To Linda"? I think it's the third song on this link:

Jimi frequently mentioned Linda in his songs. "Red House" is said to be about her too. In concert he would occasionally replace the word "baby" with "Linda".

Perhaps, but there was still no movement in his career.

I may have got this wrong but I read an item the other day that inferred that Linda Keith's dad was one Alan Keith. He was a BBC Radio 2 (formerly Light programme)broadcaster and had a career lasting over 60 years. He died in 2003 aged 94 and was still doing broadcasts which made him probably the oldest regular broadcaster at the time.
His brother was one David Kossaf- who did quite a lot of TV and was also well known as the father of Paul Kossaf - remember FREE?
Presumably Alan changed his name for career purposes.

Talking of funny names - it always make me laugh to read that Mick said he had to rescue Jerry Hall from marrying Bryan Ferry otherwise she'd have been known as Jerry Ferry.

Because Jerry Jagger sounds sooo much better!

He was born Alexander Kossaff; don't think he was David Kossoff's brother Alec, though, who was said to still be alive when DK died in '05.

Linda, his daughter, not only brought Jimi to Chas's attention--as well as some others, including Andrew Oldham, who all passed on him---she was in fact the one who finally talked him into breaking out and starting a band of his own (the Blue Flames).

Yeah, Les Paul & a handful of others were aware of him, but the difference going to England made in how we know & think of Jimi today is incalculable in a range of ways, from his fashion palette to his cosmic collection of song lyrics, and more.

I 1st saw and heard of her on a Hendrix documentary.
I thought she was beautiful! I'd like to see some pics of her now a days, out of curiosity. I've just looked at some google pics, and none of them seem as hot as the ones in the documentary, although as some one else has noted, there seem to be precious few pics of her, considering she was a model. Hope she is doing well.

Re: Linda Keith

Since she was featured in the site www.thebeautifulandthedamned.com I'd assumed she met a tragic fate long ago. Also, this site has images of her >

http://anitapallenberg.multiply.com/photos/album/17/Anita_Pallenberg_and_Keith_Richards_Circle

I could see why she would be a successful model as she looks different in every photo.

Hmmm...I'm sure this was discussed here before winking smiley

Vivid, a large maker of pornographic movies that is releasing the film this week, has created a 45-minute DVD, called “Jimi Hendrix the Sex Tape,” that combines 11 minutes of sex footage with a retrospective of Hendrix’s career in the 1960s (but with none of his music included).
The film shows a naked man who resembles Hendrix, the guitar legend who died in 1970, wearing a bandanna in his Afro, having sex with two brunettes in a dimly lighted bedroom. His full face appears on screen for only a few seconds, with his eyes closed. In other portions there are flashes of his profile. But his hands, bedecked with rings, roam large on the screen at times. The film has no audio.

Bizarrly you can buy a replica plaster cast of Hendrix's penis (something quite different to give the mother in law at Christmas).
Click on link to see it in high resolution.
It looks a bit like an elephants foot...........

I don't know how accurate this is. You be the judge.

This site has a mini-biography of L.K. with a pic that is more recent than the 60's pics we usually see.
It also features an even more recent Youtube interview with a woman who looks a lot like the woman in the pic.
The woman in the interview, though, does not have any trace of a British accent, but for what it's worth, I once dated a woman who was raised in Surrey but lost her accent during the time I knew her.

"Written by Keith and Brian Jones in January 1967, "Ruby Tuesday""

Where do they get off writing this? Several times Keith has noted it was mainly him and Brian working oin the track in the studio but never has there been a statement - by anyone of the Stones that Brian co wrote it.

I know Mick had nothing to do with its composition but neither did Brian.

Re: Linda Keith (apology letter from Brian)

In his own handwriting, a letter of apology from Brian to Linda Keith. Linda Keith, as we know and stated previously in this thread, being Keith's girlfriend 1963-66, as well as girlfriend and early fan/advocate of Jimi Hendrix, about whom he wrote several songs etc etc.

The letter is on the Hardrock Cafe web site, which may make you download a crap Microsoft product (if you want to see Brian's own gentle lyrical handwriting).

Here's my transcription:

Dearest Linda,

I'm so sorry that a tragic thing seems to have severed our relationship. Let me please say darling that I'm deeply aware of your problems. Please do everything you can to sort out everything. I'm sure you can shake off the devils that haunt you. That you could so often forget your troubles to help me so lovingly fills me with such deep emotion. I longed to help you Linda -- really I did, but a kind of self-preservation instinct erected a barrier every time the longing to help arose in me. This produced the conflicts inside me which resulted in violence, insults, and other hurts I caused you.

..................

So sweet and sad (and self-incriminating)!

What do we know about Brian's and Linda Keith's relationship? Here's them together in Spain on holiday (Oct 29, 1967) -- a photo and a Daily Mail clipping

I've always thought that his break-up with Linda Keith is what led him to eventually become the person/persona he is famous for. If what I have read is true, it was quite heart-breaking, and he went from being somewhat naive and innocent (please note I said SOMEWHAT) to being determined to never let such a strong, emotionally painful experience happen to him again. In doing this, he pretty much became an ass-hole. A nice guy on the surface, and maybe still that way deep down inside, but in the layer between the two, a self-serving prick whose only concern was feeding his self-destructive needs.

Boogie69, you referring to the letter (transcribed above) that I posted from Brian Jones to Linda Keith, apologizing for his violence and insults and wishing he could have been kinder to her, in the way she was kind to him?

If so, do you mean (above) Keith's becoming a self-serving prick, or Brian? (I imagine you mean Keith)

If you read the clipping, it states that Brian is with model Suki Potier so that's Suki in the picture with Brian.

hi DGA35,

yup, I read the clipping, and I believe it's wrong.

After all, this is the same paper that just published the sensationalism about Mick Taylor. Not exactly known for its scrupulous fact-checking department.

So I don't believe that's Suki Potier. It's Linda Keith. Take a peek.

If you believe in the karmic wheel, you could imagine that one of the reasons Keith got so strung out on smack was because he had blown the whistle on Linda Keith for the very same thing.

When you take on someone else's drug problems with fierce indignation as Keith obviously did you'd better beware of what going on in your own house or whats about to. peace

Karmic wheel? I think that's a bit of a stretch. I haven't ever read that it was indignation that drove Keith to contact Linda's parents about her drug problems, but genuine concern. He says so himself in his book and others have credited his intervention with saving Linda Keith's life. Why he got hooked later has nothing to do with it.

Don't be so sure latebloomer, certainly no one but themself can be credited with saving someone's life who is addicted to narcotics, certainly not Keith's intervention. The best info credits the individual with 70% of the work, the spirit with 20% and 10% to the healers.

I respect you opinion greatly, but if you ask Linda I'm sure she would call Keith's actions indignatious. I have learned to be careful with other peoples addictions unless your house is brick and thick. Maybe I just need to work on my teepee a bit. lol

swiss thanks for translation those letters from Brian, so sweet, would they have worked for you?

Those ones from Morocco are suspect, wasn't he with Anita, mid violent upheaval at the time? Sound to me like he was a weak man who couldn't control his violence and temper and was hedging his bets in case Anita didn't work out.

In his defense, I'll bet Brian loved as deeply as any man. It is a confusing business on the best of days. peace
