So wait, did Linda always have that curly hair? I have only seen ones of her with a hat on until this thread. The first one you posted with her hair showing, I thought it was a wig.

I still am unable to find the appeal of Chrissie Shrimpton. Her body looks ok, but I don't know, her hair just makes her look so dorky. Perhaps she is prettier with another style.

One could imagine that it's Marianne.

I think Marianne was better looking than Anita.

Or Anita, she was always in the middle of everything back then :-)

Anita seems kind of skanky like she smells funny or something in those old pics.

Depend on what you want to do (if I visit your mother I take Marianne if you want to jump from a Chandelier in to your bed I'll take Anita)

gypsy, thank you for this very interesting post. it is especially interesting to me for the following reason, and i know this is going to sound like a pathetic attempt to claim some sort of connection with the stones, but here goes:

linda keith was the niece of my grandmother's second husband, ivan. i remember ivan well -- he was a charming and dashing gentleman. i never met linda, as far as i remember. anyway, i was just a kid at the time (this was in the early 70's) and had no idea who keith richards was.

Thanks, browneyedgirl! I didn't see your post until now.
One of the Townsend pics is in Andrew Loog Oldham's autobiography...but is very small.

Actually Keith knows Linda went with Jimi Hnedrix (Keith called her father and told him his daughter had run off with a "negro"). Ruby Tuesday could be about that. Beautiful nice Jewish girl who gave Hendrix a career.

Gave Hendrix a career, are you serious? Plus, back then the use of the word negro was common, as was spade.

ie "negro blues musician" or "hip spade talk" etc...

Jimi often thanked her for helping him have a career. She pulled stings introduced him to people etc. etc. He didecated a song to her, can't remember which one.

A very simplistic ay of describing events. Point me in the direction of times when he has thanked her?

Linda Keith bumped into Chas Chandler in New York and she told him to go and see Jimmy James & the Blue Flames at the Cafe Wha?,because she knew that Chas was getting into record production. He went there and saw him and the rest is history.

That's the well known story, but Hendrix was getting attention from many other well known people... it was just a matter of time.

Jimi made his own career, someone passing on the word of how good he was is hardly 'giving him' a career.

I couldn't agree more.

The date is there in Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix
by Charles R. Cross
Theres a lot about her and it seems she really helped him make it. Of course he was a genius but maybe he felt he wouldnt have made it big without help from people like her. He thanked her.

I read that she gave Jimi one of Keith's guitars.

I didn´t say that Linda Keith "gave him" a career, but I do know that in 1966 he had been on the road for many years and was becoming a bit desperate for a break.
How come nobody in the States realized his extraordinary talent? He was actually playing in small clubs for almost no money and had did so for years. I think he had good reason to be thankful for Linda Keiths efforts to give him a bigger audience.

she did give jimi one of keith's guitars... without telling him.

You dont understand, there were already 'name' people checking him out, Les Paul foe example was on a search to find him again after heareing him play somewhere before.

Ok, but I think it was essential for him to go to England, where he was immediately accepted by the people. In America he was just another black blues guitarist. And remember, he already had signed a record contract with Ed Chalpin in New York which lead to nothing, a contract that followed him through his whole career.

All we have is what happened, but he was being noticed of by other English musicians as well as well known americans, it was just a matter of time. He was too good to not go beyond the situation he was in mid 1966.

As for that contract, so many musicians did/do that kind of thing, sign what ever is put infront of them.
