Slightly off topic but there are some nice shots from your trip behind the stage :

I didn't know Ronnie had TWO 'House of JB' guitars. Nice amps pics too.

Yeah - I was suprised to see Japanese Zemaitis guitars in both Keith and Ronnies racks - Keith has a new 5 string Z Macabre and there were also some Japanese Gretsch Duo Jet reissues and the new Ampeg Plexiglass reissues there also.

I got that one bookmarked now. Thanks

And no - you're not scary, but I was so impressed with the photo album that I felt I had to post asap.

Once again, wesellguitars - thanks for uploading these pics on webshots.

Welcome aboard! I have some large photos of Clapton at the 1966 Windsor Festival, but they are in black and white, with one in colour. That's where I got the shot of the inner horn from.

Lets hope Dick Bowen can shed some more light on the timeline of the trade.

Hi Chris,
I can't get my account activated. The administrator hasn't replied to my emails. I guess I'm not welcome there?

That is strange both of you have had trouble getting accounts setup at the LP forum. Your input and expertise would be welcome. I'll contact the admin and see if she responds to me.

I would really doubt you're not welcome there. Do rememeber it's a privately run website, so things can run a bit slow once in a while.

I think it's great you (the seller) took the effort to post on this message board, it shows your good intentions IMO.

The easiest thing to do is shoot an email to Lily (The Owner) and she'll get you set up very quickly. I had the same probably initially but she fixed it asap.

Ack!

Keith wants his '57 Gibson Gold Top back

Some colector had won an auction on a '57 Les Paul Gold Top - for 150.000 euro.

German guitar luthier, Thomas Metz had auctioned the guitar in the name of the owner, Larry Carlton who got it from Keith in '94.
Carlton stopped the auction via telephone saying "please, please don't sell"
reason: Keith wants it back and he feels sorry that he let it go, back in the day.

A picture of the guitar can be seen on the CD cover of "Live in Tokyo" from Robben Ford, who had borrowed the Gibson from Carlton for his Japan-Tour.

Some of you probably lie awake at night asking yourselves 'What ever happened to that Sunburst Les Paul that Keith played during the '72 tour and which later wound up in the capable hands of Mick Taylor?" I know I do. Anyway, I don't really have an answer but I did come across what appears to be these fairly recent pics of what could be called the 2nd Keith/Mick Burst on the Les Paul forum. Apparently the guitar resides (or resided) in England until recently. I wish I knew more but perhaps some of you do. Here it is for your perusal. Below is Keith with the guitar in '1972:

And as it appeared sometime in the more recent past:

Even more impressive is the Ampeg Keith uses. The most underrated guitaramps ever. You can hear this "beast" on GYYYO : KR+MT +Gibson +Ampeg =the best guitar sound ever!

The Ampeg is indeed impressive but without a great guitar to plug into it it's just furniture. As you point out, what's really impressive is the combination of the two. I'd still love to find out more about this guitar as it's history has always intrigued me

Like your R9 and my R8 I hope!

This has to be if not the best one of the best histories of an Electric Guitars I've ever seen in my life. Is it worth a million US dollars? HELL NO, IT'S PRICELESS! Too many great Guitarists have laid their hands on it for it to be anything else. One these guys needs to buy it and start playing it again! Keith would be the obvious one.

I stopped reading the comments after I read the above and had to say something. To me, this is one of the best threads I've seen on Tell Me. The contributors gave me a history lesson today.

Thank GOD for fans like you guys. There are some EXCELLENT pictures and details of the REAL DEAL Les Pauls contained here. Now I'll read the rest of the thread and get completely caught up.

Great work and thanks to all of you.

Effing Excellent!

Ampegs are great amps - if you don't want any control over tone and like things to burn up.

I had a Jet but couldn't stand it anymore. Got a Hot Rod Deluxe (Fender) instead.

Open-G,

You are THE MAN! Saved me a bunch of time looking for this stuff. I got to see some of Keith's original equipment guitars during the rehearsals for Hail, Hail Rock N Roll.

We leave for Europe tomorrow. I'll have plenty to read will I'm sitting in the hotel rooms.

This thread and the ones you just turned me on to are really kick-ass!

Aaah there it is! Last picture I have ever seen was with Taylor on tour with Dylan, just before he sold both LP's to a collector to sustain certain habits.

So, of the four main LP's (bigsby, Keith's painted Custom, this striped LP and the plain LP) all but the plain LP Taylor used on the '72 tour have showed up.

you mean in the backstage shot from 75? maybe he's not tuning it,
just sitting in a natural guitarist posture. :E

a mechanical thing...

What the capo does is put pressure on the strings between the frets where it is applied and so depending on how high the frets are and how much pressure the capo exerts the strings can go slightly sharp. It's like lightly bending them.

And to add: a guitar is only in tune at the zero and 12th fret. Basically, the moment you use a capo the guitar is out of tune. You always must tune up again after you put on a capo -or recut the nut, which is what player like Richards do. They have dedicated guitars for different keys -a guitar for open G without a capo, a Tele for open G in the key of A, another for open G in the key of B, etc.
