And what is interesting, it's STANDING on the pitch. I really hope the Stones will do the same - like they have always done at Wembley Stadium. If you wanna sit at a Stones show - no problem, there are ten thousands of seats available - but leave the pitch for real rock'n roll atmosphere.

No chance. With the exception of Glasgow '03, their UK shows have been all seated in 2003 and in 2006 for the sole reason that they can charge more and rip people off (there was no legal requirement on each tour for those shows to be all seated). No way are they going back to general admission when they can clearly get away with getting us to pay twice as much as the rest of Europe.

Can't a pitch hold more people if it's not seated? Or are the limitations for how many is allowed on the pitch the same?

It does hold more..but if youre allowing 10,000 on a pitch and charging all of them £60, youre going to make more if youre allowing 7,000 to have seats and charge them £100 - £150.

That's true. Weird that they didn't do it in Horsens since that one was kindda cheap (I think) and everybody was standing.

Thats more of a festival site though than a football stadium, isnt it?

Theyve only pulled this shit in the UK so far. I have read a few rumours that they may try it in some countries on the continent next summer, though. Wouldnt be surprised if they played some smaller stadiums than they used to and made them all seated.

Are they afraid of not selling enough tickets even at "reduced" prices?

sold out in 45 minutes. imagine if the Stones could even come close to doing that ?

They did that quite regularly up until the ABB tour...which followed too close behind the Licks tour for some folks...and had all dates arranged by the time the tickets went on sale. [many shows used to sell quicker because other dates hadn't been announced and folks didn't want to miss out. Punters have wised up a bit these days too. They know that "sold out gigs" are very often nothing of the sort. Just gigs where official and unofficial scalpers have bought half the freakin tickets !
I also suspect that very many big name bands [Stones certainly included] would have sold out the "first gig at the new Wembley" in equally quick time.

I think the stones will only tour europe from july to august, mabe 20 shows, so i reckon sometime in august they will play wembley. And tickets will mabe go on sale around march time. Now if the stones wanted too, they could be the first act to play wembley, but you know what the stones are like,It will be another missed opportunity. Yes muse have done well to sell out wembley, but then the first act is always going to do well, its the prestige of being the first to open the stadium, plus people want to be there to experience the new wembley.

er.. £70 x 70,000 is £4,900,000
And £100 x 49,000 is also £4,900,000

I think Cohl will be working on £150 x 55,000 is £8,250,000

i think what he's trying to say is playing in front of 70,000 would be better than 49,000 !!!

Both actually. Practically it was working as a festival site, but it's training fields for AC Horsens daily.

Oh yes I didn't follow but i still think Cohl (and Jagger!) will prefer 55,000 x £150 and I suspect I'm being conservative with a figure of 55,000

If they sell out the new Wembley Stadium aren't we talking 70,000 + ?

They lose a few seats behind the stage but they gain all those pitch seats (and I'm pretty sure after Twickenham 2003 and 2006 and also Cardiff and Sheffield 2006 - it WILL be seats)

yeah but a training site isnt a stadium - ie you wouldnt have grandstands etc

The old venue was 80-82,000 after it became all seated in the 80's (it was previously 100,000)and had a 72,000 limit for concerts with standing on the pitch

the new one will hold about 90,000 for football, however it'll be considerably bigger than the old one because there will be more leg room for every seat than there was even in the Royal Box in the old one. It'll be the largest stadium in the world to have every seat undercover and there'll be no obstructed views.

Should hold around 75,000 for concerts.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say indeed. But Wembley is maybe not a good example because I think it will sell out anyway despite high prices. But Twickeham? Arena A'dam, Köln,...?
I like reading papers saying stadiums were packed, sold out in minutes like it used to be and not just making Cohl's addition
