who are they supporting? They need to have very cheap tickets to come anywhere close to filling it!
If thats the case, I doubt the Stones will play the stadium earlier than that. However, I'm surprised that there hasnt been more a fuss made about Muse getting the prestigious 'first gig' there. Hopefully theres something in the works
It has been now confirmed that there will be an under-21 football game in March to 'test' the venue, with a limited capacity before the 'official' opening in May for the cup final, so there seem to be nothing to stop it being ready in time for the Stones' tour next summer

if the Stones' tour is going to start in late May/early June as seems to be the case, plus the fact that it appears its going to be considerably shorter than the 35-40 shows that some were speculating, it would appear unlikely that they'll still be touring Europe three months later.

i think you'd be suprised by they're popularity and ticket shifting abilities.
They're not my cuppa, but there's no denying they're popularity, and with tickets prices at around the 40 quid mark, and 4-5 support acts, they'll fill it easy, imo.

Thats what I mean. If they organise it properly, they probably could do that

Because we still hope the stones will do it and because it's NOT Bon Jovi. Somehow we all dislike him very much although he was quite funny when he said the Stones could open for him if the stones were so eager to open Wembley
(the bold type in the article below is mine. Its maybe noticable that the quote from Wembley's Chief Executive doesnt indicate that Muse will be the first act to play the new stadium, but that they'll be 'one of the first')....
Muse are the first group to officially announce a show at the brand new Wembley Stadium for summer 2007 - it will happen on Saturday 16th June 2007.
Following on from headline slots at Glastonbury in 2004 and The Carling Weekend in 2006, plus their recent sell-out arena tour, this will see Muse play their biggest own show to date, with a capacity of 75,000. Support acts are to be announced.
Wembley Stadium's Chief Executive, Michael Cunnah, said: "Wembley Stadium is a world-class music and sporting venue and we are thrilled that top British rock band Muse is going to be one of the first music acts to play here next June. The stadium is looking magnificent and with good progress being made on site we are aiming to open as early as possible in 2007. We are currently in discussions with a number of event owners and promoters and the interest in the new Stadium as London's newest and greatest venue is fantastic. There are likely to be further events announced over the next few months."

A thoroughly pragmatic approach. Now then, the real question is .......... what will the Rolling Stones be doing in the summer of 2012, cos thats when the firkin' thang's gonna be open for business ? Folks folks, this is Britain in the early 21st Century we're talking about here. Get real, it ain't gonna be ready for y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-years yet. This country has a proven track record in .......... major clusterf**ks !! In fact, WE set the world standard for clusterf**ks. NO-ONE can f**k it up better than the Brits.

Muse it is, then! Unless Melanie C finally gives in and agrees to thee big reunion.
Personally, I don't think I would want to attend a first event at any place of that size. Would rather they have a bit of practice when it comes to crowd control, staffing and stuff like that.

Unlike a Stones show, the oldest chicks in the audience are also the hottest.

It wont be anywhere near the first 'event'. Just the first concert. There'll be several football matches before it.

well i couldn't give a toss what band 'open' it. its a FOOTBALL stadium. and thats what matters. FOOTBALL being played there. anything else is of no interest
stadium gigs are shit and we all know it. i wonder if Muse will gay down their plans and go for an all seater - atmosphere killer ?

Wow, great. Maybe Cohl should learn that 70.000 x 70£ is better than 49.000 x 100 £
