I dont know the answer to that one. I tend not to believe it, Hes is just trying to act cool. others think he really doesnt know, and make a good, well thought out argument for why that is so. But I believe what I believe I believe.
Well, Keef would announce the numbers but they tried Keef just ONE TIME and you know how he talks like he as marbles in his mouth...so they went back to Mick forever more... ;-)

And then when people used to shout at him to get on with it, Pete bollocked them. Really funny. I was at a gig in Wembley Arena (one of Entwistle's last) and Pete started talking about how nice it was to have seen Joe Strummer again (Joe had supported The Who that night), and saying some nice, quite moving things about The Clash, when some dickhead behind me yells out "Play My Generation You TWAT". Pete's comment was priceless. He looked straight at the guy and said: "Sorry, did you PAY?" Cracked me up. So beware The mighty T.
Actually, I HATE Dylan in concert! I am not a Dylan fan these days, I used to really love his songs. Seeing him in concert, twice, has turned me off Dylan for good! He never speaks, turns his back to the audience, in my opinion, he's a dolt!

he doesnt turn his back to the audience - hes playing the bloody keyboards, standing at the side of the stage
I dont know what peoples obsession is with hearing performers talk. Most of what they say is cliched insincere nonsense anyway, so why bother. i go there for the music, personally. I cant get why people get put off because someone doesnt tell them what a beautiful audience they are every five minutes

Gazza, you got to admit when Springsteen used to do his long stories leading into songs that it really added a lot of magic to his shows. As far as your beautiful audience comment you have a point, but there are some great performers out there who can add to the concert experience when they say things on stage, Pete Townshend, as mentioned above, among them.
That I agree isnt a bad thing in moderation. All this schmaltzy "Youre such a lovely audience/we'd like to take you home with us" schtick that you just KNOW they say to every audience though I can live without, however..!
I'm not a great concert goer but on the rare time that I do go to one I like to hear the performer speak. It was brilliant to hear Ray Davis give some background info on Kinks songs and then play them.
Far better than the likes of Oasis who I do like (Despite the fact that I've got two of everything they did, once by the Beatles) but who just get on stage play the songs and then leave.
As long as the crowd are given an unscripted introduction rather than a speech I think its fine.
Why does Mick announce the song they're about to play?
He used to announce songs that they had no intention of playing (Puff The Magic Dragon, YMCA, The Barney Song, She Was Hot, etc.), but the crowd was too high to get the irony of it all.
Seriously, if you want to hear a bonehead spouting off at the mouth between songs, go see Mike Love and the (fake) Beach Boys. What an a-hole.

The guy who used to talk alot between songs was Robert Plant during the Zep days - some really interesting stuff. Jimmy has edited all out of the live CD's and DVD's - shame, it was a plus i thought.....

I don't get this at all...so going by this, "Modern Times" should be rubbish? It's almost as intelligent as judging "A Bigger Bang" by its sales??? (I do mean it in a caring way...)

Maybe they could add words at the bottom of the screen like a foriegn language movie. Four Flicks Keef mumbles like he has a mouth full of mash potatoes...
