This may depend upon how much "unfinished business" there is.
Taylor toured with Mayall's current band for a few months in 2004. Buddy W, Mayall's guitarist, did not seem to quit, whine, sulk, or fear a replacement. Everyone seems to have moved on after giving lots of folks a lot of pleasure.
I presume if Wood joined Rod Stewart on stage, Stewart's guitarists also would not feel put out, and Lindsay Buckingham would not go off the deep end if Peter Green showed up for a Fleetwood Mac show.
By the way, I've been at various weddings where ex-s have been invited guests. I don't recall any torn hair, throw glasses, . . . .
That being said, I'd rather Taylor tour solo, or even with Mayall, than play an underrehearsed, one-song, let's-shuck-for-the-nostalgia-buffs performance with the Stones.
