Ah that's too bad. I was hoping to meet you there. You are completely done with Stones shows then?

Some guitar parts are overdubbed by Pierre?
If it's true, it seems that Keith playing is
very bad nowadays.
Did Pierre play on "Bigger Bang" too...?
Maybe we see him on stage on the next tour...
But seriously, I find that hard to believe.
I still have not seen the DVD yet, but I
am very curious.

At the end credits of the Austin show it says "Additional recordings by Pierre de Beauport". Could mean that he recorded some of the show though.

i thought i read that that refers to parts of the rehearsal/backstage footage, no?
not overdubs, but filming/recording.

Yeah. Just stating that it could be what he did. Some people claim to hear that it's not Keith playing some segments of the DVD though.

There's a fair amount of guitar parts on the Austin show that sound like Keith 25 years ago -strong, fluent, energetic, a style that Keith doesn't master anymore. Best example is the main rythm guitar for Under My Thumb, that's clearly not Keith.

Well, I am done with the Stones in huge stadiums. But I can't blame the Stones alone, as I am done with ANY band in huge stadiums like the Amsterdam Arena. I simply refuse to pay 100 euros to see a band there. I really wanted to see the Police, but not in the Amsterdam Arena.

But about the Stones -I feel like I've seen it all. I've seen club shows, theater shows, arena shows, stadium shows, and it just doesn't excite me anymore. I went last year, and I liked only a couple of songs. After about 8 songs it was over for me, and I just found it utterly boring. I can see why people still like it, but I just don't. The DVD is enough for me nowadays.

Maybe if the do a club show, or a 3000 seater I would go see them again, but I doubt that will ever happen again.

I don't think it's meant to be a feather in his cap,so to say,but an easier way to get this sound

Perhaps the most telling part of the Under My Thumb overdub would be Keith emerging from backstage, cigarette in mouth, after his guitar line has already been going for a good 30 seconds or so.

To be honest, though, I'm not convinced there are any other significant overdubs, he just appears to have had a really good night (besides, if they were gonna really clean it up, they might have fixed the first half of the Ain't Too Proud... solo, which is in the wrong key).

That damn guitar has been ringing for more than two years.

Will someone finally answer it and find out who the @#$%& it is?!

Just like Bach or Jon Lord.

And Mathijs "Without Chuck there would be no live Rolling Stones, that's absolutely clear. But I just do not like what he ads to the sound. I don't like his sound, and he just isn't a boogie or rock and roll player."

"just isn't a boogie --- player".... No, no.................................

Also done with arenas? I mean: The O2 is an arena.
Why are you done with stadiums? Is the sound to horrible for you?

I have viewed some boots I have of this tour, and yes, it must be Chuck who starts the "ringing" guitar riff on his keyboard--Ronnie, Mick and Keith all huddle towards Chuck to begin the song, the first time they played it live in Philly--and then at the end you can clearly hear Mick's guitar, either an octave or whatever, lower than that "ringing" riff. Micks hands are too low on the fretboard to be playing that high part anyway.
So, my question is, what exactly happened during the American Music Awards when that ringing guitar sounded so out of tune, and Mick breaks out in a flop sweat, muffs the lyrics, and the song almost grinds to a halt?? Anyone else see/hear that?

Why bother the high-horses folks who just says this doesnt rock?

As long as we are thousands and thousands and hundreds of thousands
that shake & boogaaloo & twist & play air axe to the sh*t, just
ignore & go on.

Some dudes just dont manage gettin' middle age, thats the whole story.

I don't know about other shows, but in Rio it's Jagger who starts Rain, and KEith follows. There's no sample tapes from Chuck.

That was my exact feeling when I watched "Being Mick" for the very first time.
Not exactly the guy you meet in a bar. But someone who you can have a lot of fun with (He's still Mick Jagger and he knows that). I think the guy is really funny and sympathetic.

I noticed that in being Mick and everything I seen after that, I just got more convinced that Jagger must be a lot of fun to be around with.

Have a look and listen at the Copacabana DVD, it gives you a slightly different picture of the intro compared to the official release. Before the song starts Mick strums his guitar twice. So you can hear what it sounds like and you can also hear the echo. And that is not the high ringing sound we are talking about here, it is a deeper tone. Mick makes very sure that Chuck and him start the song synchronous (edited out on the BB DVD) and then something takes off.

Chuck played in a Frankfurt club on Friday night and I asked him about it. He said that he doesn’t trigger anything and it’s Mick playing! But he doesn’t know what they’re doing “in front of the house”! Ha, ha, I thought! How would he not know what they do! So I don’t know if he was telling the truth.

So, in theory, would it be possible that someone at the mixing desk is involved? Or is that crap?

Hi latvianinexile. I was standing more to the right in the front row (sheet of paper and pencil in hand) - quite in front of the harp player/their black backing singer).
A friend of mine took the pictures for the paper (I can burn a cd for you - vice versa?). I thought an iorr shirt would be unfit for the occasion (actually wore a Who t-shirt underneath, I confess) so we couldn't say hello to each other.

well, thanks for asking him, LatvianinExile - the reply is totally weird, though!
when i've studied RFD on various dvds i've always wound up mystified - which i gather is how they mean me to wind up.
it's not a big obvious move on guitar, right? but it's definitely not Mick each time (if it's ever him);
it sounds most like Keith's tone; sometimes it looks like the three guitars could be taking turns playing it,
but ... wouldn't that be more trouble to coordinate than it would be "worth"?

It's definitely Brian and Stu playing.
It's a heavenly riff.

I only took a dozen pictures. Not worth burning a CD with really. I uploaded them here:

What do you look like? Can you link to a picture please.

It's neither Keith nor Ronnie or Blondie, who's on acoustic. Keith is not playing at the beginning of the song (Copacabana), Ronnie comes in with the odd lick and later both of them play a little more. At one point you can see Mick not playing but the ringing is audible! Matt Clifford had a lot to do with this song so maybe there are some relics of him stored in the production computers. The song runs with a fixed bpm rate, so believe the ringing comes out of some machine.

>> It's neither Keith nor Ronnie or Blondie, who's on acoustic. <<

smile: the three guitars i had in mind are Keith, Ronnie and Mick -
i'm cognizant that it's not Blondie, but thanks for noting that he's on acoustic on RFD.

>> At one point you can see Mick not playing but the ringing is audible! <<

i know - that's part of what i'm talking about.

>> believe the ringing comes out of some machine <<

which leads right back to: what machine, and who's playing (or "triggering") it?
it does seem like Keith is involved some of the time, maybe playing along with whatever?
it's a mystery - and it seems like it's supposed to be a mystery (which amuses me, because
the first thing i said after hearing RFD the first time was "i want to see them playing that.")
but again: thanks for asking Chuck!
