I would agree with the posts that say the bigger bang was in the 89 Steel Wheels opener. That was such a great way to start the show. Also, the NS tour...that was impressive. Nothing like a Rolling Stones show.

ABB is more of a chok opener. The movie keeps going and then suddenly, Keith starts the engines.

i recall hearing a great African song - it sounded like Youssou N'Dour - which I really liked and which Ive never been able to track down since. They did indeed play some fine pre-show music on that tour

Some of the post-show stuff was good too down the years. My favourite was "Alaoui" after the BTB shows.

Hi Kentflash,

Well, since 1978 most intro's I've seen live became better.

Haven't experienced the ABB opener myself yet, but can you tell me what you felt when you saw the opener live for this tour compared to other tours?
Goose bumps?

Yes I got goosebumps. And that was only from a DVD. I haven't seen any shows yet. My first and only one is Horsens.

Hi kentflash,

sorry I got the impression you've seen a lot of show intros, my mistake.

Have fun at your first gig!

Would you please elaborate? I always find it very hard to read your posts as they are seldom to the point and are very short...

Yes. I'm gonna elaborate (Unlike some others):

What I meant was that I've been told a number of times that my posts sort of burn with my desire for the Stones (OK, I sound like a cheap romantic novel as of now). And I think that was why Sidonia thought I had seen shows.

Take The A-Train or
Fanfare For The Common Man.

Much cooler than those "earthquake"-DolbySurround-sounds used on this tour.

The best for the Stones for me was either 81' with UMT as the opening song OR NS tour. However, the CHEEZIEST for me was when I was in High School. I went to see Great White, The Scorpions and the headliner was Richie Blackmore's Rainbow....After the first 2 bands in an empty Spectrum (aka: the blimp hanger ) in Philly... the Lights went out for Rainbow to come on and over the PA you here... "look toto we arent in Kansas anymore, we must be over the RAINBOW, BOW, BOW ,BOW". OMG... I almost puked....Then these 2 huge mechanical eyes come out and scan the entire empty place....it was SOOOOO, spinal tap.. no actually beyond that.. I dont know to this day why I went to see that show... Probably, cause I have bag of goodies and had nothing to do... I dont know, I cant remember....

Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps Tour had a good opening. BV's description earlier of a Peter Gabriel opening reminded me of this. It was 1978. The stage hands were dressed like hooded Jedi people from Star Wars. They scurried about on stage in dramatic fashion, bumping into each other, with lots of oversized props like a huge microphone. Then while the house lights are still on Neil appears from on top of an oversized amp, just watching the Jedi people. Gradually the fans realized it was Neil and began cheering. Then he started with "I Am A Child," and continued doing an acoustic set before Crazy Horse joined him on stage.

I think that my favourite is the Continental drift/Start me up opening from 1989/90. Another good one was the Take the A-train/Under my thumb opening. I saw both but the first one built even more tension and anticipation and is perhaps the greatest of all.

From the record I could imagine that the Anaheim 1978 opening: Handel's Awake the trumpet's lofty sound/Let it rock intro was also great.

If I remember right they had abandoned the drumming/Honky tonk women intro on the European tour 1976. It just started with Honky tonk women.

Fanfare for the Common Man followed by their most blistering 5 song opening run of songs ever. Bring back the lotus and the rockers!!!

Absloutely No Security. I still get goosebumps when I watch the bootleg dvd's - what an awesome idea. No matter what the intro - the most awesome part is when Keith & Mick come charging onto the stage - it's magic.

The Stones have never disappointed w/a concertn opener. Fanfare and HTW in '75, for pure excitement, are the top of the list. 2000 Light Years, used on the second half of the '72 tour, was also reaaaaaaaaaaalllly trippy.

After reading this thread, I really regret missing the No Security Tour. It's the only tour I've missed the last 20 years.

They used the same intro in Europe on B2B '99 so maybe you did see it.

Glam Descendant, I meant that I missed the entire 1999....(what could I have been doing?)
