stats through age 19:

6 no-hitters - 1 in college
no girlfriends

Hey StonesTod...I just read this. Man, that is great. I quit at the age of 17....bunch of strikeouts, no no-hitters, and (smile) a few girlfriends.

I think this album is very ronnieish. It is a bit like The Faces. "Stay with me" could also be a stones song on BnB. And I love "A Nod is as Good as a Wink... to a Blind Horse". I think both albums have the same style except for the funky stuff on BnB.

deal. I'll give you Tracey and, oh what the hell, I'll throw in Sandra....now for that, I better get at least three good no-hitters against some pretty good teams. None of those against the blind school.

How about the one against the Sisters of the Poor? Or the Academy of Mary Margarita?

eh? Its a gatefold sleeve. he's on the other side of it with Ronnie

Black and Blue has enough songs for a very good EP, but for such a short album (8 songs) too much filler.

Great = Memory Motel
Very Good = Hand of fate, Crazy Mama
Good = Hot Stuff,
OK = Hey Negrita, Cherry oh baby, Fool to cry
Weak = Melody

half a Stones album being "OK or worse" makes it subpar by their standards. Especially when it took 16 months to come out.

great cover though. Especially Charlie's "hitman" look.

Geez Gazza - rather poor taste dissing the Billy-driven Melody so soon after his passing. How about "Weak with a bullet" or something?

I think we had a similar thread on Rocks Off just after he croaked it, so I said it even sooner over there!

never liked it, I'm afraid. However, I DID see the Stones play the song at Shepherds Bush in its only live appearance apart from the (uncirculating) El Mocambo versions, and they didnt do a bad job of it that night. It was certainly one I never expected to see/hear live, so I enjoyed the surprise

okay, I'll accept that in lieu of a retraction

I just don't see how one can feel there is little keith action. He is doing what he does best: holding down the fort, the anchor on every tune. He might not be taKING the solos, but that is what thhey were auditioning for. HS and HOF are held together by his ryhthm guitar. Cherry has a lot of Keith; might be very sparse playing, and that is just right. MM he is one of the pianos. Negrita, while boasting Ronnie's debut lick, again rides mainly on his nasty dirty chording off the side. melody only has the one guitar by Keith throwing in those jazzy licks. Wah on Fool and straight rambling on Cra-a-azy Mama.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

not that it affects my enjoyment (or otherwise) of the songs, but auditions and recording sessions are two different things (or they should be)

yes ;-) I know, but Charlie in the back cover.

Ok- not stone hard facts. Just thinking here: The whole band not in the front, Ronnie back, someone should keep company, GH Soup - Mick was in front, but that's too radical to put him back... Charlie was in Ya Ya's front cover - so his turn to be back now?

"The hitman look" should've deserved to be in the front though.

my first was a combo: "rock'n'rolling stones" (hard to found in argentina many years ago), "sticky..." and the glorious "tatoo you"

I love this album, it sounds so fresh, and the cover for god's sake, it's the best photo of the band EVER. I have a BIG poster, it's so cool.

Hey Negrita alone makes the record worth buying. I love that song, grooovy ...

Lukester, as I said at the top of this thread, I like Fool to Cry. It's less schmalzy than Memory Motel!

And the fact that not everybody realizes that HOF is the best song on the album is cause for consternation. It's top 10 stones!

p.s. dunhill, i love Hey Negrita as well.

I love Black and Blue and I always thought I was the only one who liked it. Glad to know other people like it too! Not one of their big classics but it's great to listen to if you're in a laid back kind of mood and don't feel like listening to anything too intense. Hand of Fate, Memory Motel, Hey Negrita and Crazy Mama are my favorites. Love all the musical exploration on this album too.

Trevligt att se ni kan finska där i Sverige. Förståss det var inte riktad mot dig LAForum. Har du någon teori, varför Charlie inte är i frontsidan av b&b?

Could it also be something like: A new guitar player (or bassplayer) doesn't get his face to the front cover, if he's:

1) The one who does most of the the solos

2) Too gifted

oh, is that in the Rule Book?
well if so then i guess the Rolling Stones were just doing what they usually do with the Rule Book. :E

yeah! thanks Chelsea. :E

you know what I meant! I dont buy this thing about Black and Blue being an audition for a new guitarist. When they were recording, they werent auditioning. Thats all
