Well, to attend the Mannheim show in 1995 I took two days off the job, but the day before departure a colleague of mine fell ill and my boss told me he needed me so I couldn't go.
Boldly, I was only 22, I asked the company to refund me my tickets so they made me an offer that made no sense. I could only take the day of the show off, hoping I would desist from going as it would have been impossible for me to go to Germany, I live in Genova, Italy, and be back on the job the morning after.
It's about 750 kilometers.
But I said no way, I'm going anyway.
I left Genova at 4 in the morning, forced my buddy Mauro to drive with an average spped of 140 km/h up to Mannheim, various incidents made this an incredible trip, like Mauro forgetting his passport at home and finding out about it at the border with Switzerland and me begging the border police telling them we were going to see the Stones. They let us through!
Awesome show, best Stones show for me, and then back home.
About 2 hours to get out of Mannheim, there were soemething like 30.000+ cars, and stopped again by Swiss police on our way in from Germany, don't want to offend fellow Swiss fans, but your police sucks.
We drove all night and I made it home at 8.15 am, took a shower and went to work.
When my boss saw me on the job on time all he could say was: "Andrea, you are crazy ... how was the show?".

After the July 6th show in Amsterdam 1998
(it was a Monday) I had to drive back to
Northern Germany because I had to be at school
at 8.30.

The night from the July 5th show to the next
I slept in my small car in an Amsterdam sidestreet.
No problem, but my back was hurting (I´m 1.96 m).
I took a shower near the ArenA with 2 bottles of
mineral water and went to the second show. That was
the moment when I met Salar - teaching the tour schedule
to a nice lady next to him;-)

After the show I had to rush to the car, pay the bill for
the parking lot and hit the street.

I was deadly tired after the adrenalin soothed. I found
myself stopping 3 times, sleeping for 20 minutes each
(RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRING), drinking Coke and eating chips
and finally slapping myself in the face just not to fall asleep
while on the Autobahn way home.

Unhealthy? Keith would laugh about that! ;-)

Yes I must confess I'd have a greater retirement plan if it weren't for the extreme amounts of $$$$ I've spent on Stones tours. I'd love to have one quarter of that money right now! Ah but no regrets here, I had a hell of a time and when I'm old I'll have alot of awesome memories!

Most of the shows I've been to were
quite excellent, no problemos. Buffalo
1978 was kind of weird though. Bikers
everywhere. Folk throwing large firecrackers
from up in the bleachers, exploding everywhere,
in peoples faces etc. We sat there, quite stoned,
acid I think, watching the crowd on the floor
through binoculars. Two big rowdie types bumped
into each other. The one guy broke his whiskey
bottle of a post, and jabbed the other guy
in the face with the jagged edge. His
face peeled off on one side, was just
hanging there, a flap of skin, as they
wrestled, blood everywhere, then made
up and hugged. The sound system
sucked too, but hey it was a
Some Girl show, I suppose in
retrospect am still glad
I went but -ho boy!

What an ugly trip, el davido. And wouldn't it have been even weirder if the rowdies all of a sudden stopped fighting and started looking up at you and pointing.....now that would be a bad trip. Anyway, I liked the part where the guys hugged and made up.

Ditto the Keef as a role model thing - for years. We called it "keefing out" when we'd stay up all weekend on any number of assorted party favors. Then feel like shit Monday at work or school.

Ah, the good life. Much calmer now that the wife and kids came on the scene.

Davido, that was horrible....I don't consider myself a wussie, but I dispite violence and blood more and more the older I get. What a crazy thing to do....bottle in face...
I don't think I'm able to put the worm on the hook, when I'm fishing in 1 hour. It's massacre.
