I think you'll find U2 used the idea on the Zoo TV tour in 1992-93. they certainly did at the Dublin show I was at in 1993. Mick was obviously impressed by the concept too, as he was there the same night. The first time the Stones used it was (as you say) at the Miami show in Nov' 94. However, it wasnt a regular part of their stage show until Sept 1997 - a full 2 tours after U2 had done something similar.

However, I think I read on this board a while back that Bryan Adams (of all people) came up with a similar concept before either of them

Gazza,
I knew you were going to shoot me down on this.
I did not do any research, I was just going from memory.
The plain truth is I love Shitting on U2 any chance I get.

Bryan Adams of (Cuts like a Knife) Fame?

LOLOLOL

Fair enuff, Virgil

yes, the very same Bryan Adams. Was personally unaware of the 'b stage' thing that he'd done before the Stones and u2, but someone posted here a few months back that this was indeed the case

I am Impressed that he would come up with the concept. I would not even have thought that he had an Archive big enough to employ a B-Stage. I do like is greatest hits but that is all I really know about Him.

I saw David Lee Roth and Bon Jovi do a "B-Stage" in 87 and 88
The Stones did it the right way i think

Bryan Adams came up with the concept of using a b-stage?

Who would have thought of that? Anybody got more info about how accurate this info might be.

I always thought Bon Jovi created the b-stage thing.

Post a pic of Mr Adams playing Summer of 69 on the b-stage or sth.MEZ

and Ay ay baby it hurts

I don't know if he created it, but Bryan Adams definitely did have a B-stage in 1994. I saw him in the spring of 1994 and it was definitely in use. I remember it clearly because I was near it!

It's a perfect fit - a B stage for a B-list entertainer!

betcha they are INDOOR US gigs - too many major markets they'd have to pass on to make these all outdoor shows.....

I also heard outdoor gigs only in the states. Again from crew rumors.

yeah but the stones perfected it

I wouldnt say they 'perfected' it - certainly no more or less than U2 did

they certainly didnt 'perfect' the sound on it on previous tours - although its certainly an improvement on this tour from my experience

Personally, I think the choice of songs theyve elected to perform on it on this tour has been a lot less interesting than before.

There better be at least a couple of indoor theater shows considering what their people said before the tour, not to mention that Richards always says that it is important to strip things down once in a while.

Due to his tree-falling induced amnesia, I'm sure Keith has forgotten that comment . . .(and let's hope he's forgotten how to play YGMR as well!)

May 10, 1983: U2's first concert B-stage

U2 plays a show in New Haven, Connecticut. At Bono's request, a smaller stage is set out into the crowd away from the main stage, allowing Bono closer interaction with the audience, and previewing things to come on future tours like Zoo TV, PopMart, and Elevation.
