hey,
i know this is nothing to do with the stones, but as well as being the ultimate stones fan i also love bruce springsteen. i caught him in england on the rising tour and im seeing him again in two weeks in manchester on his seeger sessions tour. i was just wonderin what your thoughts were upon the boss and whether any of you are planning to see him? being a skint stundent im probably not going to get to see the stones this time around- short of a minor miracle due to ticket prices. caught em in twickenham in 2003 though - fantastic!!

I'll be at the tour opener in Dublin in 12 days time. Cant wait. was offered a ticket for Manchester too but cant make it due to finances and other commitments this summer (the Stones, most notably)

The new album is out tomorrow. I got it yesterday, though. Its superb.

How popular is springsteen in the UK and europe more generally? As someone from new york who's never gotten his appeal, I wonder how well it travels.

I saw him on February 28, 1980...great show, I've seen him a few times since them but none as magical as the first...like a first love...you never forget it.

i'm 21 yrs old and i love blues classic rock most notably the stones and springsteen. springsteen is massive in england, yet not really amongst my generation. most people class springsteen as 'born in the usa' but to really understand springsteen you gotta go way back man! listen to asbury parks lyrics and songs absolutely astounding for a debute album. then listen to the songs on darkness on the edge of town - my favourite album - every one is a concert classic also his guitar playing is frightening man! my first ever concert was the boss in manchester 2003 front row saved up for four months was the best gig ever! wish i could of seen him on the born to run tour and darkness tour. guess you cant always get what you want eh!

Seen him on every tour since 1981, and rank him as far and away the best live act in the world.

I'm seeing him in Manchester and London next month but don't know what to expect this time around. Might be a strange one!

I like him.

But working all next month and money already spent on the Stones.

Only playing 10 Dates in Europe so not hard to sell out.

All the same I would say he is V popular not met anyone who has a bad word to say about him.

likewise. The first Bruce show I was ever at (wembley Arena 29.5.81 - the day before I turned 18 - is still to this day the greatest show I've ever seen)

and rank him as

ditto

aside from the north-east coast of the US, Bruce's biggest market is Europe.

When touring with the E-Street band, hes capable of filling stadiums in any European country.

i might - but I need an attitude adjustment on Bruce first. I'm not "open" at the moment. Perhaps a chore for you in August....

He's not very well liked out here in California, everyone I know thinks he's a Dylan wannabe.
He's very similar to Bob Seger or Gordon Lightfoot in my opinion.

Re: springsteen

best quote about Bruce I ever heard:

"Bruce is okay, but he's no Bob .... (pregnant pause)....Seger."

I liked him until Born in the USA gave him that whole "working class hero" persona, which he unfortunately bought. Now he thinks he represent everyone in America, makes me want to puke. I can't tell you one song of his after that album, they all sound the same, and they are all boring. There could be some album cuts on there that are good, but I'm not going to spend my money to find out.

There, and that's my uneducated opinion on the subject.

I really like the song "Murder Incorperated". I think thats one of his later songs.

did you know he wrote "Hungry Heart" for the Ramones, but his producer told him to keep it and put it on the River and release it as a single? It was his biggest hit single at that point (1980)

Your not alone with that opinion. Hes been refered to as a, how do you spell, "bouguiouse (?) hero", which is NOT a nice thing to call someone. personally, I think its a bit harsh but if people think that I can see their point.

I did not know that. Interesting. I thought they wrote most of their own stuff, were they looking for people to write songs for them, or did he just want to write it for them?
