amazing footage and very raw rockin' couldn't agree more...
from the '72 exiles tour...the one after the '69 ya-ya's tour.

so glad you ran into this... i like the stripped downess of it...
even tho the horns and nicky hopkins are there...
no backround singers except keith...who is dead-on wonderful and powerful at it...

taylor is amazing and was an integral part of all that material in the studio as well, a co-creator in every sense...
wyman, as always...playing brilliantly with Charlie...
wyman always underrated i dunno why... maybe cause he split...
his crescendos and pulsing, staggering, stuttered stylings...
but melodic ascending and descending lines KICKING of the band right along with chollie...every fill...very subtle but the foundation is so solid and kicking.
holy moly; can i get an amen anybody...

amazing rhthm section with keith in front of charlie a lot of the time...
taylor powerchording and riffing as much as keith...not just the elegant brilliant soloist, that he sometimes get ragged on for(?)
...but certainly that too, at the drop of a millisecond...
nicky hopkins and stu trading off i think; piano loose and goosy and bluesy and so totally integrated into the rhthym section...
deep shit on those keys; not so vegasy...keith was definitely running the band...all the time.

i have an old boot hissy vhs (lucky to have it)...but saw it when it was released in new 'quad' stereo..ha...and also did see two shows of that tour live...

guess it must be some licensing thing?
i've always wondered why it wasn't a vid...then dvd...
tho i think i once saw a site where someone was selling a lot of stones' dvd's in supposedly excellent audio/video...including LAGTRS...
others here are world class collectors/fans and would really know...

just had to shout out atcha cause i think that is some of the most amazing and powerful rock and roll ever...bye bye johnny...keith's lead...
jeezum crowe... bitch...all that exiles stuff when it was fresh hot hot hot...

very happy that mick's singing gets stronger and stronger and charlie is hotter than ever now...love these last two tours especially...
but ohman they were purty raw and hot and wild and groovy and soulful...
all the guys in their twenties...maybe mick was 27 that summer i think...
which means bill was 45...just keeding...
anyway, i have watched that old boot copy a hundred times probably...bad hiss, wobbly sound and shitty video and all...
cause, man, you are so right; that's hot stuff 4 real.

I guess that the film (similiar to BRUSSELS AFFAIR) is not released because you'd see the difference between the Stones in their prime and now. Remember, they erased Wyman from the RARITIES cover.

While the music and surround sound on L&G is really great the movie is very centered on Mick/Keith. The other musicians are reduced to extras (Wyman alone is only visible for a few seconds). Technically the picture is rather mediocre compared to other rock documentaries of that era because you do not really get the feeling of a Stones concert. Compare LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER which is a much better movie in that respect.

Indeed a very good one, but not better than the LA forum ones from 75 and 76.

No its actual SPOTLIGHT FOOTAGE of Taylor's UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL as close as you can get to his vibrato.they put a light on him on all his extended solos.GO
WATCH and learn about the VIBRATO.Watch his technique and his fluidty on his solo on dead flowers.watch how he uses his pinky to support those COUNTRY BENDS and Licks that Gram Parsons showed Keith and watch how taylor mastered those country licks.

It just struck me kinda funny that Taylor was in great shape during this era.
At the present time Mr Vibrato still is a fine musician, but unfortunately also an obese alcoholic.
How come Taylor allowes his health to deteriorate in this very sad way.

Well, Taylor isn't the only Stone who let his health deteriorate at a certain point: check Keith from '73 to '78, Woody in the early 80's, Charlie in the mid 80's and let's not forget Brian... Being a Stone is not a healthy job, I bet (other than moneywise, LOL!)

Offical word from the Stones camp on why this movie can't be released is:

Allen Klein???

Isn't that convenent...

And Mick Taylor being overweight is a non-issue, don't know about his drinking
habit but I've never seen him so drunk that it affected his playing!!!

wow; exactamente; what a great post.
ty
does anyone get deep like that into taylor's rhythm suport and rhythm riffs as well? know what i mean openG?... it seemed he really had that down so deep too, but it's little talked about... i think mickt in many ways brought out the best in keith's playing...and was ultimately as grounding as it was soaring...
had the rock and that elusive roll...so bluesy and country at the turn of a dime.

WHO was playin' that lead on SFTD on ya-ya's? that was keith yes?
not even sure...think so...cain't remember...but remember how amazing that lead was...talk about the ancient art of weaving...and blues-thumpin...

Re: Ladies And Gentlemen The Rolling Stones

SFTD on ya ya's keith plays the first solo and taylor RIPS into the SECOND.

Yeah Taylor played great rhythm also check out his rhythm on BITCH,Little Quuenie, and Carol to start.

Taylor IMO plays one of the greatest OCTAVE RIFFS on YCAGWYW from Philly Special
1 Boot on the chorus part ..

What about taylor's great riff on Ventilator Blues - thats why he got his only song credit from the glimmers.

OpenG, mate, as much as I like Taylor's work I wouldn't put Little Queenie or Carol as a zenit of rhythm guitarwork. It's the standard Berry rhythm. At least half of the people who play guitar here could do a "decent" work playing that rhythm...

Taylor's rhythm is CHUNKY and FULL .

And full of vibralato....

Re: Ladies And Gentlemen The Rolling Stones

play devils advocate - many players could easy play 5 strings and 2 fingers like
Keith in Open Tunings and have that FEEL and TIMING keith has so please don,t minimize Taylor's work with the Stones.

Re: Ladies And Gentlemen The Rolling Stones

Nowadays Taylor's stomach is FULL of CHUNKY food.

No his inside is full of VIBRATO that was never again matched by any stones live
gig since 1973.

yeah it's like someone in the stands at a baseball game screaming "wotta bum; even I could have hit that pitch" without standing there at something 90MPH coming at your head in the sunlight...

any musician knows a whole hell of lot other musicians, some really virtuosos, who cannot CANNOT get that solid soulful simple rhythym thing together...
i see bands specifically advertising for members NOT affiliated with any of the super git schools etc...
and there's a reason for that...
rock is a spirit thing. a mysterious thing; tho so seemingly obvious.
it's deep voo doo to lounge around in...

a journeyman studio cat would do well to go into those schools i suppose...
and that's a wonderful thing...

the stones live catalog at the time of LAGTRS was mostly stuff that was bottom line created right there with taylor and keith as much as any of the others...
from riff conception to studio recording to brown sugaaahhh...tumbling dice...
so many so many...gold, platinum...mega genuis status...

if people want to mistake a master for a hired hand, that's their perogative...
sir mick and keith did not make that mistake when they felt so lucky and happy to have finally found the guy who fit, and could help them, integrate with them, give 'em the power and grace that they needed...
special press announcement for the five stones to be photographed together and then they made history with ya-ya's...and bigger bigger bangs from there...

so glims can sneer at taylor now, if indeed they do...
and they can play politics and revisionist history...
most business' do that to stay current and for brand identification...
plus in the heiracrchy of sir glimmage i'm sure some feeling were hurt
and some reactionary tudes for quotation...
tho taylor has always remained humble and gracious...
as he always has been.

but when MORE than the money was on the line...
the whole future of the band as a live act, after three years down...
starting '66...
was in the balance...
taylor was a rhythm and lead revelation....and the glims
didn't make a mistake when it was all on the line...
all down the line...
and got rocket filled flourishing when all their former contemporaries were burned or buring out...
and they are still here now.
they got more than a slot filled...

your analogy is great... 5 strings, two fingers... anyone could do that...
right.
and ten tons of kids barely 13 from l.a. nashville ny and all over the country in any guitar store can scream out letter perfect zep licks faster than Page...
but it ain't the same deep thang somehow.

one thing i've learned here is to broaden my appreciation for stones' eras i thought were really lame (lots of empty years, occasionally briefly interrupted with half-hearted albums)...and even whole tours...and listen more carefully...
and enjoy from different perspectives...someone will post some killer song from a tour i didn't even bother with...and there are hot gems all over the place...

so i try to avoid the him versum him arguments too much, re: the guitar and bass slots...
but in many ways for many reasons Ladies & Gents is definitive; and brilliant, consistenly brilliant offhand sloppy tight sweaty soaring...smirks, laughs and whispers between mick and keith...everyone standing close together and glims scream their heads off rock and effin roll. except for the jumpsuits and pirate shirts....no glam all slam. mega rock and roll.

funny thing; taylor and ronnie were friends since they were 15...
and mickt had the grace and interest and integrity to facilitate the glims getting closer to his childhool pal, ronnie...who he claims he always saw as his replacement, come that time...

that being said...i'm gonna watch MSG hbo 2003, cause now i have to have some great audio recent stonage.

Dude - You are RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with this statement!!

I know, I was very involved with the music world, back then,
and Taylor took the Stones to another level when he joined especially LIVE..
When if you didn't "cut it" on stage, people walked out on you!!!
