true - and even sadder for me personally was that I resisted "getting into" them until about '92 - years after many friends implored me to do so....saw them once each in 93,94,95....but, you're right, I'd missed the boat by then....

agreed on all counts. They were great shows and amongst my favourite tours (especially the November 1980 run of Frisco shows and the '81 European tour)

Considering he released 3 gospel-styled albums within 2 years and his conversion to Christianity was probably the most high profile of anyone since the Emperor Constantine about 1600 years earlier, I cant understand how anyone could have possibly gone to those shows expecting something of a "Jesus-free" zone or to be hearing the likes of "Rainy Day Women"

Yeah but Santana is just boring. He's a shitty guitarist with an awesome tone.

I think he's talking about the Norwegian concert in June 1981.
The show is on SB bootleg, and the performance is unbelievable good.

by June 81 it really wasn't a gospel show, per se, anymore

I HAVE to agree there!

Cooper Temple Clause were so horrendously bad,my friends and I STILL shriek from the memories 3 years later. They were absolutely terrible, and had some sort of bass-heavy effect in the instrumentation that 'rumbled' through you, almost making you throw up(not that the music didn't warrant that aswell^).

The posing bass player tried his best to Keef-it-up,while the remaining band members unleashed musical hell on the shocked Dublin audience.

3 years later and I still haven't seen any act that comes remotely close to those b*st*rds in terms of musical obscenity. Even Limerick's own woeful 'Maggot Infestation' pale in conparison...^^

Maggot Infestation, eh? Gee, with a catchy name like that you'd expect more, wouldn't you?

You sure would^^

Even better, perhaps,is the Cork band who go by the gastromonically-themed moniker of..."Stomach"^

Drammen, right? I think's a 1cd incomplete set if memory serves.

Aerosmith and G'n R - both seemed like caricatures of their videos. It was just awful.

How to perform like a rock star by Axle Rose:
1) run out from behind the drums at the beginning of every song and slam the mic stand down

2) during each song be sure to give someone in the audience the finger and act as if you are about to jump in and kick their ass

3) when song is over stand and stare out over the crowd breathing heavy not saying a word and then run behind the drums again

4) repeat for 3 long boring hours

Aerosmith was just like watching their videos - on every song. This includes a floating angel above the stage for... you got it! "Angel"

THen you have to upgrade your collection.
Rattlesnake released it in 2002 as a doubleCD with complete concert, and perfect sound. Plus Bonus from the Denver SB tape 1980.

sounds like something I already have and have forgotten or should get soon. either way, something's seriously wrong here....

It's easy to seperate this show from the other 81 bootlegs,
because it starts with an acoustic "The Times they are-a Changin'" which the band don't seem to have rehearsed. Bob plays it in maj7, and different chords than the usual version. After a few minutes the others try to join in, but then the song is over. Really beautiful version.

There were 2 Drammen (Oslo) shows - 9th & 10th July 1981

Theres a excellent soundboard of the 2nd night. Think its pretty close to a full show (maybe the backing singers' songs are excluded..cant recall). An excellent low gen recording of the 1st night was torrented on DAD about a year ago (there was a series of 1981 Euro shows all from the same taper I think - might even have been Michael Krogsgaard, not sure)

That's really interesting info, Gazza!
Have you heard the first show? Is it as good as the 2nd?
These shows are important to me,
as I lived in Norway at the time, but didn't make it to Oslo.

The Black Crowes in Charlotte the night after the Stones superb perfomance there in 1999...I left after five songs...horrible...

A close second...Counting Crows about two years ago in Chicago...left after 40 minutes or so...

Don't most artists seem like a caricatures of themselves? Aerosmith, the Stones, Elton, and basically everyone included. How dumb.

The Pretenders in the 80's. They played for 90 minutes and just was bored stiff!

So basically all crow-theme bands are to be avoided?

Dylan in 92 and Dire Straits in 86.
Snore.

Oasis in 98 were a yawn as well. There were two people behind me sleeping across a pile of empty seats.
Quite a feet when you consider the kick drum was miked so loudly that it almost woke the dead.

kyle m

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

Poison by far was the worst concert I have ever had the misfortune to witness apparently 'live'. I can play better 12 bar blues riffs than CC De Ville & I'm a shithouse guitar player. People were so bored within about 20 minutes of the start of the show that there were groups of people everywhere in the venue sitting with their backs to the audience just chatting. It was so bad. I think i left before the show ended.

I saw Bob Dylan around about the same time & he completely snubbed the audience, he came on & started with All along the watchtower, then straight into Lay lady lay, then obscure crap thereon in for about an hour or so and then just walked off without even as much as a "thanks for your hardearned dollars suckers". He was such a prick on that tour.
