Anyone have any opinions on this 1969 record, I was listening to it last night, I think its one of the best records of its time. Mick Taylors guitar playing on "Vacation" is great, his "Gimme Shelter" line was already exisiting on this song, amazing that he was only 19 years old at the time!.

Yeah, I agree! Still listening to it from time to time and it's never boring. So many great songs, the whole record is like a novel, each song's a chapter. And Mick Taylor is at his best. Just 17 years old...

awesome taylor is fantastic and living in california, I wonder if he had any input with Mick Jagger Writing WINTER - jagger's images of california and stony canon.I know he collaborated with jagger but some of the lyrics might of been
suggested by taylor.

Bare wires & Blues from Laurel canyon are from 1968.
I still got these Lps;
That's why I wasn't too worried when MT took brian's place

I bought these 2 LPs in 1968 and loved them. The virtuosity of MT makes me confident when he joined the band. He was the obvious choice. It was so much in the mood of the times.

I think taylor got more song credits with mayall then with the stones which is not saying much since he only got one with the stones on ventilator.I know taylor
got one song credit with mayall on fly tommorow and might of got more not sure.
fly tommorrow is unbelievable how can a 17 year old play the blues like that first you have to LIVE the blues.

While my favorite is Crusade, Laurel Canyon is fantastic.

Too bad they never put out an official version of 2401 live. Taylor could really smoke on the rhythm part from the little evidence we have.

Taylor received credits on Snowy Wood, No Reply and Hartley Quits. Perhaps others as well. Check out Harley Quits with Carla Olson on Too Hot for Snakes.

Hey - another song that got alot of airplay , back-when was: Walking on Sunset

listen to John's words and picture "Hollywood", late 1960's, Hippies everywhere,

this was before it got trashy.. Cool place to hang out, I know, I was there!

Mayall liked it so much he moved here from England...

There were suggestions that Taylor wanted to leave the Bluesbreakers not only because he wanted to join a rhythm and blues band, but also because he did not want to leave England. Ironically, he then joins a band that, a short while later, tax exiled to France.

(Of course, we may never know the true reason he left the Bluesbreakers ... )

Smokey,

Never did hear the reason why Taylor left the Bluesbreakers?

Buy Mayall was in England when he told Jagger/Richards that Taylor had just
quit on him and they (the Stones) should try him out...

Best decision Mick & Keith ever made was grabbing this guy!!!!!
Will always remember my 1st Stones concert in 1969!!!!

Man they lit up the Forum that night, Jagger at his best, he was so funny
and had his best stage presence back then.

I recall in a Guitar Player intervie that Mick stated that he left Mayall becaue John wanted to go with a drumerless band and that did not fit with Mick's style. One of my favorite tracks from his period with Mayall was 'The Bear' as well as 'Mr. Censor Man' Ripping stuff!

That story does not seem complete. Taylor auditioned for the Stones in mid-May, but played a German tour with Mayall during the following week. Also, Mayall suggesting Taylor to the Stones does not explain why Taylor may have been looking to leave or why Mayall was offering him.

Does anyone have the Trouser Press interview?

Anyone other than myself plan on attending the Mayall gig at the 100 Club on 3 April?
