most circulating boots have this at the wrong (slow) speed - mickboy's inclusion on the IORR set corrected the problem.

T&A, which is this "inclusion" you are talking about?

mickboy corrected the speed on Drift Away and included it on his remaster of IORR

It's also on "Acetates" (Midnight Beat Label) in perfect quality

And correct speed! As it was taken directly from an official Rolling Stones Acetate. The "only" thing Midnight Beat did was removing some crackles.
A great cd, released long before Mickboy's release by the way.

i reckon this is the slow version, but i love it dearly anyway:

if anyone has the "corrected" one to post, that would be way cool, thank you!
(i believe mine is the Newbury take, from april 74; there's also a Munich take from january 74.)

Whats all this about corrected speed + slow versions?

I have the same version, like the one you sent, Miss sssoul - and a 440Hz tuned guitar goes well to it.
So, no kneed for pitching or tuning, either one or the other.
that sayed and tried, indicates it is the right speed, indeed.

but - you never know for sure

Wow. I always thought he was saying "Give me the BEACH BOYS and free my soul".

Wonder how the process went to get this recorded. It was unusual at that point for the stones to cover a song so recent. Or is the popular version of the song also a cover and had not yet been done? But the stones' arrangement of it sounds so similar... I'd have liked to have been there when mick(?) proposed it to the others.

Anyway, this song was a guilty pleasure of mine _until_ I heard the stones do it.

No! No, you're not! Is this the most covered song in the history of music? If not, it has to be close.

Was up my radio station once & checked it out,
think we got groces or hundreds of hits on that song.
Very very very well covered by countless artists.
Still very well done by the Stones imho.

It's running too slow which doesn't mean it's out of tune! But this
one seems to run 2 halftones to (s)low. Just listen to the piano.

Yes, you're right with the tuning

I tried it, pitched 2 Semitones up but Mick and Keith's voice sound too much like mickeymouse.
then I tried 1 semitone up - well that kinda sounds allright
have a listen, maybe someone with a piano can hit a few chords and tell if it works.

Drift away pitched +1 semitone
I deleted the link 'cause it was the wrong version.

smile: sounds pretty good, Open-G! thanks for posting that.
Keith sounds a little bit too shrill, but ... yeah, that's interesting.

here's a version that i'm told is from the acetates -
i *think* it's not the same one i posted earlier. sorry, day after day i'm more confused. :E

Listening to both versions I've come to the conclusion that

1. the acetate version is superior by any means (no need to pitch or fiddle with it )

2. my pitched version is wrong by 1 halftone - so leave it as it is.
and to rknuth, sorry you're also wrong.
I suggest to you to dump the piched version (I will anyway)

thanks miss sssoul for pointing that out, i was confused too

Naw...it's a good song, that has been covered over and over. Personally, I like the Stones' version. Although I suspect Mick wanted to cover it more than Keith.
