good song but what happened to Keith´s voice ? after quitting smoking it should be strong but here it sounds rather thin, almost eunuchical
and it is mixed too far in the background

love this track - even though (or maybe because) it's basically a re-write of All About You.

To me it's more a mash up of The Faces' Debris and Thru and Thru, but the lyrics directed to the Man upstairs. Can't see the similarities with All About You at all

The verses are definitely reminiscent of Thru and Thru, but the chorus is very very close to All About You - the chord progression, the melody, hell even the lyrics:
Everyone is asking questions, yeah
I got one or two
Just need a little time just to clear the mind
And find out if it's true
Who'll tell me those lies?
Let me think they're true, yeah
I heard one or two
They weren't about me...
They were all about you
You can sing each over each other!
Hey, not that I'm complaining. Still a great tune.
The lyrics might be similar but I found the melody, chords and decorations during the chorus (Faces' Debris) more similar to those mentioned.
And Keith adresses Jagger in All About You whereas he sings to God in Tell Me Straight.
Now, for some people those two might be the same cat but I doubt it is like that for our Keith...

The riff is a part of the WH-chord. Classic Keith, teasing a groove out of a couple of strings when finding a sound he likes.
I don't think TMS resembles any of the songs mentioned here.
The track suits like a glove on HD, because of its self-reflection lyrically and poignancy musically. A welcome lyrical break from Mick's girl problems
A very nice tune, imo.

It's a beautiful song. It truly captures Keith's truths. It's magnificent. I love what he did on BRIDGES (and FORTY LICKS) but this is a whole other level.
There appears to be some ageism going on, not necessarily here, about the Stones. That's rather odd considering population.
A song saying something with or even about the artist in general as well as specifically within - especially with an artist/band - that challenges. Some are not up for it.
We're granted the ability to recognize.
If something in YOUR life doesn't match what's going on then the song won't take on, retain, and carry, that.
One day, some day, it might.
Otherwise it speaks. I appreciate what they say. It rings true.

There have been so many slow ballads by Keith by now, and I have grown tired of them ages ago, but still I think "Tell Me Straight" has some kind of freshness in it. It is just so simple, straight-forward and sincere. No bull-shitting, no over-interpretation. No crooning, but real singing. The endless 'oh baby, baby, baby' and its variants are gone nor any sort of cliche-like over-acted Keef role playing of, say, "Robbed Blind" or "The Worst", him knowing and making it too clear who he is. Of any of his old slow numbers, I think I need to go back to "You Got the Silver" or "Coming Down Again" to find something similar.
Besides, I think the number works very well in the context of the album. Short and sweet, but distinctive, supporting the whole. Like Keith solo spots once were (before they grew out of context to some sort of side shows of their own).

Aren't there also a live version with the Stones of "Connection" without Jagger, a pure Richards lead vocal, that is.

It's the best vocal delievery from Keith since Before They Make Me Run. It is not a highligt on the album, but it's not a track I'm gonna skip (none on the album are). I'm not a fan Keith's Tom Waits mannerisms, and I'm relieved that he has grown out of those, maybe due to quitting cigarettes.

Ben Waters, Worried Life Blues? ... Ron & Keith share vocals, Charlie on drums, I believe.

Keith's best vocal performance (IMO) - 'We Had It All.'
'Tell Me Straight' is a decent little song but would seem more at home on a Keith solo album, Mick's backing vocals notwithstanding. Dreamy Skies and maybe Angry sound like my Stones while the rest is (mostly) Mick or Keith solo - a fact that Andrew Watt was paid handsomely to conceal.
