Best song representing the core and essence of the new album. Great vocal delivery and guitars. Cool solo followed by bridge about "dreary streets of London not promising much" and with beautiful harmonies.

Anybody else hear the Whole Wide World riff in this too?

Not a review of great insight. He lists Depending On You, Driving Me Too Hard and Tell Me Straight as the weak points of the album. The last two at least seem to be fan favourites (and mine too). He also thinks that Darryl Jones is playing on the whole record.

Watching college football this afternoon on FOX and they played Whole Wide World going into a commercial.

Powerful song .... needs to be broadcast to thee masses ....

Absolutely. I think it's no coincidence that WWW was one of the few new songs that already had their live debut at the recent club gig... It's a song that cries to be performed live!

This is one of the songs I love most!
Simply perfect, beautiful lyrics, beautiful Mick's voice, the riff, the solo.
The Stones still manage to amaze me in 2023, this is fantastic!

Agree. His take on those songs is way off the mark. The album deserves better insight.

I found it weak at first, but I agree that all of the "new wave" talk is close to the mark, even if Mess It Up is the actual new-wave/post-disco song - I hear a bit of a Clash nod especially in both the vocal and instrumental accents of the London-bridge-of-sorts, just like I hear a touch of Dolls in Bite My Head Off(, Frankenstein). Sort of charming.

I couldn't believe my ears when Paul Sexton said that track had "great drumming" during the 1 hour special !

Oddly, the drumming feels more subtle on the live version, now available courtesy of Justin's channel : [www.youtube.com]

I don't disagree with this - Charlie brought a sense of swing that's essentially absent from this record. But in his absence they also seem to be pursuing musical territory they'd largely avoided previously, with some not-uninteresting results.
