Wonderful and subtle riff, one that could go on forever, and maybe it does. I do remember someone scoffing at the mere thought of it being a riff, for some reason. Maybe that's what you get for giving the people something new and that is not easily recognisable when set against the past.

Loved this song from the minute I heard the leak. Still love it. One of my favorites of all time. Reminds me of a modern time Slave.

That saxophone break towards the end is revelatory. The perfect addition at the right moment. Take it to another level.

The worst song they've released the last 30 years. The only thing that redeems it is the sax solo. The introducing rhythm guitar is Jagger through and through, Keith would never play like that, Spin Doctors Pt II.
Awful and not worthy The Rolling Stones.
NO swagger. No Stones Magic. Sounds like MOR ca 1993. As danceable as Offspring or Green Day. Come Mess It Up I dance like crazy. That's Stones!
Mind you, Angry is great so it ain't Steve, he plays wonderfully on Crosseyed Heart. It must be Watt without the S.

I wouldn't want to spoil the fun but to call that guitar bit of Get Close a riff seems a bit far fetched to me.

They are probably listening to the more simplified variant of it that Ronnie plays.

Well, I'll be honest. What I do is: I put on the CD and listen to the song. I don't analyse it really. I have no idea what part is Ronnie and what part is Keith. I don't search for hidden notes and subtle second parts. I hear what I hear: a very basic pattern, not too high in the mix. I don't hear what I would call a riff, although of course, the fact that they play a certain number of chords in a certain rhythmic pattern could be defined as a "riff", I suppose.
Maybe my approach is too limited but it always enabled me to recognize JJF, or SMU (here I can even detect the interplay of more than one guitar, although admittedly I've no idea who does what), or - here we go - Slave, as riffs.

...The thing that doesn't work for me with GC is the chorus. It comes across as a wee bit too «easy», imo. However, it's a good track, and I love the sax break.

That's fine, mate
What I should have said, that probably would have made an impact on you as well, is that Ronnie's guitar is too high in the mix.

Fair enough. A few posts above, thomashanck posted a clip of someone playing a "Get Close" guitar part. Does this correspond to what Ronnie does or Keith? It sounds pretty close to what I hear when I listen to the song.

...As a criticism, I reckon that they've plagiarized themselves "Wanna Hold You" and a near identical steal from Peter Frampton's "Show Me The Way" chorus (Bm A G) chord progression. "I Want youuu~... to show me , , the waaay~~~" and the sax solo is imo lifted from a Bobby Keyes lick in John Lennon's "Whatever gets you thru the night" , which isn't necessarily a bad song.
Obviously, it's a deliberate homage to "CYHMK" as it's also in the same D key signature. ...
Thanks!
Dude.

At first I also thought this song is strange. But it grew on me. It is actually very good, just not that catchy and predictable.

Lastly, I pray to God that they make this song a permanent fixture early in the setlist. (maybe song #4?)Thanks!
