Whut!!??
Worse than:
Streets Of Love, Sweet Neo Con, Might As Well Get Juiced, Gunface, Oh No Not You Again, Always Suffering, Blinded By Rainbows, You Got Me Rocking and Sparks Will Fly?
No way!

Worse than Get Close: Sweet Neo Con, Might As Well Get Juiced, Gunface, Infamy
Just as bad as Get Close: Blinded By Rainbows
Not very good, but not bad either: Streets Of Love, Always Suffering, Sparks Will Fly
Better than Get Close: You Got Me Rocking
Miles better than Get Close and in fact a lot of fun: Oh No Not You Again

Actually I gotta say I prefer Get Close to all those songs. The only other two I like of the ones you listed is OONYA and Blinded.
Rainbows has great lyrics, nice melodies and nice guitar solo by Wood.Just saying.Quote

Oh.
By all means, great. I wasn't asking you. And you didn't back anything else up regardless of those, paltry as they are.
However... certainly you can appreciate the response.

I think this is the first that I've read criticism of Get Close! Not my favorite but definitely a stand-out track.

I disagree with something or more in all these four posts. And so what!
Instead I will state that I tend to appreciate all the first six songs from HACKNEY DIAMONDS more than the latter six songs of the album. That is, this applies to "Get Close as well.

The worst song they've released the last 30 years. The only thing that redeems it is the sax solo. The introducing rhythm guitar is Jagger through and through, Keith would never play like that, Spin Doctors Pt II.
Awful and not worthy The Rolling Stones.
NO swagger. No Stones Magic. Sounds like MOR ca 1993. As danceable as Offspring or Green Day. Come Mess It Up I dance like crazy. That's Stones!
Mind you, Angry is great so it ain't Steve, he plays wonderfully on Crosseyed Heart. It must be Watt without the S.
Listened to Love Is Strong before putting on HD
Says it all :
Bring back Don!

i know who could hate slave pt. 2
but seriously this was the first track on the album that really stood out to me and is still one of my favorites
that sax solo over keith's guitar is just magic

A bit too much "polish" is the one thing that perhaps affects the whole album a little.

Compared to the 4 albums that preceded HD? It boggles my mind how anyone can come to this conclusion. Polish compared to Steel Wheels or Bridges or Bigger Bang????
Haha! Seriously???

I love Slave. I can see that the basic rhythm of Slave resembles Get Close, but that is hardly a reason to like Get Close, since everything that makes Slave wonderful: its fantastic riff, the drums, the fun lyrics, the looseness and grooviness, the roughness on the edges, the Stones-vibe, all of that is missing in Get Close which is just a polished pop song with no redeeming features.

I agree with Spud, actually. Although Steel Wheels does have a sheen to it, and Voodoo Lounge is intentionally 'retro', A Bigger Bang does sound somewhat 'organic' in comparison to Hackney Diamonds. To me, anyway, A Bigger Bang feels more Stones-y and less 'pop' than Hackney Diamonds. The exception being Sweet Sounds of Heaven.

i agree with this
my first thought when i heard angry was that it sounded like a more polished version of don't stop (i know it isn't particularly similar to don't stop but that's where my mind went)
not that there's anything wrong with that either
overall to me the polish seems to work for most the songs on the album

I do agree. It's a decent pop-rock record, which is elevated by Watts' production. It's the most 'contemporary' the Stones have sounded in decades.

I love this album...however I also notice that on the CD version it is very loud. It's too bad as I notice when you turn it up a bit in the car it hurts your ears, which can't be said of their other CDs. I guess it's the modern way of producing but just glad the vinyl version isn't like that. I think the blu ray is also much better.

i didn't mean to imply that it's at the same level of quality as slave (it's not even close) or that that's a reason to like it
i was just attempting to humorously point out how similar it is to slave someting incredibly obvious to me when i first heard it
and i disagree with your assement it lacks "redeeming features" it's has plenty if your willing lower your standards a bit and just try to enjoy it for what it is (which to reiterate is definitely not slave)
same goes for hackney diamond as a whole
you'll never hear me proclaiming it as something on par with there output from the 60's thru the early 80's
to me it's better then dirty work and about as good as anything else they've released since 1989 (which i've all liked)
i just didn't except it to be the next exile and it wasn't but i'm still glad i got it finally and enjoy it for what it is

Vinyl can't be brickwalled via mastering.
However, if someone was able to copy a brickwalled CD to vinyl it would still sound horrible due to the compression of the digital mastering because, regardless of a lower level, the signal is still destroyed - it's just a copy at a different level - and it would be noisy as well.
It's ridiculous how the industry has gone for loud and not for quality.
Older CDs vs newer CDs - unless there is total control over mastering (U2 - their remasters are barely different than the originals regarding reissues), with exception to Ministry, anything from the 1980s through the mid-1990s will sound quieter. Not all but from 1996 onward albums are much louder with CD mastering (and eventually all digital mastering - download and streaming) having been slammed with compression ie brickwalled where a quiet part is just as loud as a loud part and with the volume low they're still loud.
Although it does seem like for some artists, like Pink Floyd or Fleetwood Mac, where there are a lot of dynamics, brickwalling might make them sound a bit fuller compared to the constant bludgeoning of AC/DC or Metallica etc.
